This position is responsible for providing care to individuals receiving services in a manner that ensures safety, client’s rights, confidentiality, comfort, dignity and a therapeutic environment. The role involves carrying out functions that contribute to the effectiveness and safety of the unit, including crisis intervention, taking vital signs, and observation of individuals receiving services. The Behavioral Technician is responsible for maintaining inventory supplies and making appropriate requisitions, ensuring an environment conducive to recovery consistent with SRMH/DD/SAS, Crisis & Urgent Care Services philosophy and best practice. This role respects the rights of individuals receiving services to make choices and makes every effort to follow their crisis plan. The technician works with clients, families, and other team members to ensure the crisis stabilization unit provides individuals receiving services with a safe and supportive environment consistent with recovery concepts and person-centered planning. The position coordinates and/or implements skilled level activities involving the care, treatment, and training of individuals receiving services on the crisis unit. The technician ensures that individuals receiving services maintain appropriate personal hygiene, perform activities of daily living, and receive proper nutrition. They assist with self-help skills as necessary and keep the supervisor informed of the condition of individuals receiving services. The role involves preparing written reports (vital signs, census reports, incident reports), utilizing the treatment plan developed by nursing staff and/or substance abuse specialists, and supervising individuals receiving services in activities of daily living, encouraging independence and self-responsibility. The technician enforces limits on individuals' behavior using established policies, procedures, and rules, and secures and relays information used by professionals for the admission, discharge, and transfer of individuals receiving services. They observe individuals for changes in physical and mental conditions, reporting these to professional staff, and monitor and document food intake during mealtime and snack time. The position also assists in group educational sessions and/or activities as assigned, attends and actively participates in meetings and training, and maintains certification in all agency, state, and federal training requirements. The Behavioral Technician demonstrates knowledge of and complies with all agency policies and procedures, as well as state and federal statutes and regulations. They demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures and assist in crisis situations. This role may require driving and travel as needed.
