About The Position

Strategies to Empower People is seeking full-time Behavioral Support Staff to provide direct in-home and community support for adults with Developmental Disabilities who require a high level of BEHAVIORAL AND/OR MEDICAL SUPPORTS. This role is ideal for individuals who want to make a lasting impact and have experience working with challenging behaviors. A key requirement for this position is the ability to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL). Strategies to Empower People is a 100% employee-owned company operating in the Greater Sacramento area, dedicated to empowering individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) to live as independently as possible. The Behavioral Support Staff works one-on-one with clients in their own homes, providing hands-on support with daily living activities while ensuring the client's active participation. The role involves assisting with assessment and behavioral intervention for clients who are deaf or hard of hearing. The work is performed in the client's home and community, with a focus on enabling clients to engage fully in their lives and the community.

Requirements

  • Must be able to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • At least six months of professional experience working with people who have regular behavioral challenges.
  • Must drive, requiring a valid California Driver License, current auto insurance, and a clean & reliable vehicle.

  • Experience beyond six months is reviewed in relation to wage offered.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct in-home and community support for adults with Developmental Disabilities who require a high level of behavioral and/or medical supports.
  • Work one-on-one with an adult who has an Intellectual and/or Developmental Disability needing support with consistent, high behavioral challenges or medical challenges.
  • Provide direction and hands-on support with any and all needs our clients have, ensuring the client is still taking part in activities such as eating, cleaning, bathing, or toileting.
  • Assist with assessment and behavioral intervention for the person they work with.
  • Ensure clients' behavioral challenges do not prevent them from engaging with their community.
