About The Position

The Behavioral Specialist is primarily responsible for supporting people in achieving their personal dreams and goals. This role involves assessing each person's hopes, dreams, and desires, and providing supports that facilitate their achievement. The specialist will assist individuals in fully participating in their community according to their interests, ensuring their rights are protected and promoted. This includes helping them develop advocacy skills and utilize personal advocates. The position also requires providing support for emotional, physical, and social needs, and facilitating positive relationships using person-centered approaches that promote self-determination. Input and recommendations into assessment and planning processes are expected, along with the full implementation and documentation of the individual's plan according to service definitions and agency policy. Daily progress notes and communication logs are essential to ensure appointments, goals, and interests are met. The role also involves assisting with the day-to-day operations of a home, such as housekeeping, meal preparation, laundry, shopping, lawn care, and vehicle maintenance. Driving and travel are required, including arranging or providing transportation for individuals. The specialist will also assist individuals with knowledge of emergency procedures and personal safety, utilizing effective judgment in safety situations like fire drills and community safety practices. Facilitating access to community resources, including recreational activities, housing, food, clothing, school programs, vocational opportunities, and life skills training, is a key responsibility. Additionally, the role involves assisting individuals in developing natural resources and social support networks, and assisting new or current staff with orientation, mentoring, and training. Attending and participating in meetings and training, maintaining required certifications, and complying with all agency policies, statutes, and regulations are also part of the job. The definition of an Innovations direct care worker includes all workers required for compliance with, or delivery of, the relevant Innovations waiver service definitions and the delivery of a unit of Innovations services to individuals in the definition of direct care worker to be applied and shall include only caregivers who are contracted for the provision of services in a legally appropriate manner.

Requirements

High School Diploma (Required)
Drivers License (Valid) - USA
Experience working with children or adults (dependent upon population served) with a mental health diagnosis, an intellectual/developmental disability, or substance use disorder | Not Required

Responsibilities

Assess each person receiving services for their hopes, dreams, and desires and provide supports that facilitate achievement.
Assist people receiving services in participating fully in their community consistent with the person’s interests.
Ensure that the rights of each person receiving services are protected and promoted at all times.
Assist people in developing advocacy skills, participating in advocacy efforts, and utilizing personal advocates.
Provide support as needed to meet the emotional, physical, and social needs of each person supported.
Facilitate person-centered, effective, positive relationships with people receiving services using positive approaches that promote self-determination in all areas of life.
Provide input and recommendations into assessment and planning processes, and development of the individual’s plan.
Implement person’s plan fully, within the requirements of the service definition, and document as required by the service definition and agency policy.
Complete all required documentation, including but not limited to, goal completion, actions toward outcomes, incident reports, timesheets, etc.
Complete daily progress notes and communication log to assure appointments, goals, and interests are met.
Assist people receiving services with the day-to-day operation of their home such as housekeeping, meal preparation, laundry, shopping, lawn care, vehicle cleanliness, and maintenance.
Drive and travel as required.
Arrange for or provide transportation to people receiving services as required.
Assist people receiving services with knowledge of emergency procedures and personal safety.
Utilize effective judgment when dealing with safety issues, including but not limited to fire safety by conducting drills, inspecting equipment, and practicing safety procedures in the community.
Facilitate access to community resources, including locating recreational activities, housing, food, clothing, school programs, vocational opportunities or services providers to teach life skills, and relevant mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse services.
Assist person supported to develop natural resources and make contact with social support networks.
Assist new staff and/or current staff with orientation, mentoring, and training.
Attend and actively participate in meetings and training as required.
Maintain certification in all agency, state and federal training requirements.
Demonstrate knowledge of and comply with all agency policies and procedures, as well as state and federal statutes and regulations related to specific program areas.
Follow service definition guidelines for services being provided.
Complete all other relevant responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
