About The Position

The Behavioral Health Unit Coordinator is responsible for performing the nonclinical nursing tasks for a nursing unit; the receptionist role for a nursing unit, utilizing discretion and protecting the confidentiality of patient information at all times. The Behavioral Health Unit Coordinator efficiently utilizes the supplies and equipment on a nursing unit to facilitate the timely and effective delivery of patient services.

Requirements

  • High School graduation or the equivalent.
  • Ability to read and use simple math skills.
  • Accurate spelling.
  • Clear and legible handwriting.
  • Knowledge of nonclinical tasks required in the daily operations of a nursing unit such as receptionist, telephone etiquette, and secretarial duties.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Computer entry skills.
  • Knowledge of patient confidentiality issues.
  • Professional communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as clerk or nurses aide.
  • Previous experience in typing or computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performing nonclinical nursing tasks for a nursing unit.
  • Serving as the receptionist for a nursing unit.
  • Utilizing discretion and protecting the confidentiality of patient information at all times.
  • Efficiently utilizing supplies and equipment on a nursing unit to facilitate the timely and effective delivery of patient services.
  • Assisting in moving equipment such as charts, carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment.
  • Lifting or pushing up to 50 pounds.
  • Bending over to perform certain duties, e.g., open file drawers, pick up supplies, reload copy machines, etc.
  • Maneuvering throughout the halls, stairways, and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies.
  • Performing a significant amount of writing and computer entry.
  • Making trips to various departments.
