The therapist will communicate effectively with patients, families, and the treatment team, manage patient/family phone calls, and utilize computer systems for various administrative tasks. A key function is processing psychiatric emergencies by assessing patient condition, collaborating with psychiatrists for crisis resolution, processing commitments, obtaining necessary authorizations, and referring patients to appropriate facilities. The therapist must demonstrate knowledge of the Mental Health Procedures Act and function as an interdisciplinary team member. Responsibilities also include facilitating discharge planning, utilizing therapeutic modalities, obtaining treatment authorizations, providing consultation, and serving as a liaison between physicians, families, and agencies. The role emphasizes understanding and utilizing the Principles of Recovery, promoting person-centered care, empowerment, and a strength-based approach to crisis intervention, while exhibiting respectful and culturally sensitive behavior. Collaboration with Peer Support Specialists and other staff is essential to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
