About The Position

Arlington County's Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking a qualified Behavioral Health Therapist III to serve as an Assistant Supervisor within the Behavioral Healthcare Division. This position functions as the Assistant Supervisor for the Recovery Oriented Clinical Case Management (ROCCC) team and provides both supervisory oversight and direct clinical services. The Assistant Supervisor provides clinical and administrative supervision to assigned staff while maintaining a direct service caseload. The position works collaboratively with multidisciplinary providers, including psychiatrists, medical doctors, therapists, and community and natural supports. Services are delivered in community settings, County facilities, and via telehealth.

Requirements

  • Completion of the requirements for obtaining a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a clinical discipline such as Counseling, Psychiatric Social Work, Psychology, Art Therapy, or other directly related clinical discipline with internships and practicum requirements specified by the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
  • Considerable post-Master's degree experience providing clinical therapy and other mental health services, which included the application of diagnostic and treatment services.
  • At least one year providing services directly related to the position's assignment.
  • Must have the ability to be Licensed within 90 days of hire.
  • Applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite.
  • If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record.
  • Any offer of employment may be contingent on a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
  • Employees will not be hired by the County to provide or support services to the team or program in which they are current clients: You cannot concurrently receive behavioral health services from Arlington County Community Service Board (CSB) programs while employed in an Arlington County CSB program (exception Crisis Intervention services).
  • At least 24 months must have passed between receipt of CSB services from Arlington County and employment in an Arlington County CSB program.

Responsibilities

  • Providing clinical and administrative supervision to up to six (6) non‑licensed staff
  • Ensuring staff understand and implement program goals, policies, and procedures
  • Conducting clinical chart reviews and documentation audits to ensure compliance and quality of care
  • Monitoring staff performance and providing coaching, guidance, and feedback
  • Conducting assessments, triage, case management, and other clinical services as appropriate
  • Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with County and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborating with DHS staff, County partners, community providers, and natural supports to ensure coordinated and effective service delivery
  • Acting on behalf of the Program Manager during absences and providing leadership support during periods of critical need
  • Providing on‑the‑job training and orientation for new staff
  • Delivering refresher training on case management and related behavioral health topics
