About The Position

UPMC Western Behavioral Health is seeking a Behavioral Health Therapist Associate to support our Child & Adolescent Acute Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and Pediatric OCD Clinic. In this role, the Behavioral Health Therapist Associate serves as a key point of entry into care, providing clinical intake, assessment, referral coordination, and patient engagement services for children, adolescents, and their families. The position collaborates closely with referral sources, community partners, and the interdisciplinary treatment team to facilitate timely access to appropriate behavioral health services, ensure seamless continuity of care, and support successful engagement and transition throughout the treatment process. The Behavioral Health Therapist Associate for this role will travel between two different locations - Pine Center with one day per week at our South Side location. This position works daylight hours Monday through Friday.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Education in school counseling, or related field required.
Completion of a human services related internship/practicum or 1 year of relevant human services experience.
Experience working with adolescents and young adults experiencing depression, anxiety, and suicidality.
Interest or previous experience working within a treatment team approach.
Strong organizational skills.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
Act 33 with renewal
Act 34 with renewal
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of psychiatric evaluation and assessment process preferred.
EPIC trained preferred, not required.

Responsibilities

Works with MHP/Supervisor to define role, interventions, and population complexity.
Connects with potential clients and addresses engagement barriers.
Gathers necessary information for continuity of care.
Conducts structured assessments and documents findings under supervision.
Adapts treatment models for patient care.
Completes tasks to inform treatment planning.
Maintains accurate and complete case records.
Develops provisional diagnoses using DSM under supervision.
Promotes self-management of illness.
Works with treatment team and attends meetings.
Collaborates on developing and updating treatment plans.
Completes documentation promptly and ensures service authorization.
Provides individual and group therapy, engages families, and educates on recovery.
Reviews cases with supervisor and clinical team.
Coordinates with community supports and treatment team.
Refers patients to appropriate services and programs.
Participates in program improvement activities.
Performs additional tasks as assigned.
