About The Position

Inova Behavioral Health Center Fairfax is looking for a dedicated Behavioral Health Therapist IV to join the Comprehensive Addiction Treatment Services (CATS) - Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) Merrifield team. This role serves as a clinical expert providing a range of therapeutic services, psychoeducational programming, and behavioral interventions to assist clients in achieving progress towards their individualized treatment plan goals. The therapist will assess and diagnose mental health and/or substance use disorders through bio/psycho/social assessments, identifying patient and family goals/needs. Additionally, this position involves clinical leadership by providing supervision to team members seeking licensure and mentoring graduate students during clinical internships.

Requirements

  • Certification - Basic Life Support within 3 months of hire
  • Crisis Prevention Institute in-person training for non-violent crisis intervention, receive CPI blue card within 6 months of hire, After 9/1/25, Vistelar replaces CPI for new and renewed de-escalation certifications.
  • Approved Clinical Supervisor within 3 months
  • Upon start: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP), or Licensed Substance Abuse Professional (LSATP)
  • Five years of experience post licensure in mental health/substance use disorder treatment, psychoeducational programming including targeted, evidence-based interventions (crisis intervention, trauma, and integrative therapies)
  • Master's Degree, Ph.D., PsyD, EdD in Mental Health, Social Work, Counseling, Substance Use Disorders or Behavioral Health-related field.

  • Previous experience working with substance use and/or acute behavioral health patients preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve as clinical expert providing a range of therapeutic services, psychoeducational programming and behavioral interventions to assist the client in achieving progress towards the goals and objectives of individualized treatment plans.
  • Assess and diagnose mental health and/or substance use disorders through a bio/psycho/social department specific and evidenced based assessment identifying patient and family goals/needs.
  • Serve as a clinical leader by providing clinical supervision to team members seeking licensure as well as supervision/mentoring of graduate students during clinical internships.
