About The Position

Behavioral Health Techs are integral in the overall functioning of the facility. In all instances, the Techs will interact with the patient in accordance with established treatment policies and procedures. Techs may facilitate patient orientation, as necessary. The role involves assisting in luggage and body searches, monitoring and facilitating Book Studies and Recovery meetings, ensuring patient locations are known at all times with hourly checks, and assuring patients follow the program schedule and are on time for assignments. Techs supervise and sometimes facilitate patient activities, ensure patients are in their rooms at designated times, and oversee the med line to prevent diversion and de-escalate situations. They assist patients with mobility to activities, medication, and meals, support counselors with documentation, and adhere to all applicable policies. The position requires assisting patients in overcoming denial and resistance to treatment, managing communities, redirecting behavior, and documenting shift reports. Techs attend staff training, assist nurses, and drive patients to appointments, outings, and to purchase sundries, including nicotine products. Maintaining a professional demeanor, appearance, and working cooperatively with others in a constant state of alertness is essential. Regular attendance is required, along with abiding by confidentiality regulations (42 CFR Part2 and 45 CFR HIPAA).

Requirements

  • Candidates must possess the ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate a basic understanding of the principles of chemical dependency recovery.
  • Maintain records and have good communication skills.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Must be able to walk within the facility and on the grounds of the facility for approximately one (1) mile per every eight (8) hour shift.
  • Must be able to continuously sit for approximately three (3) hours per eight (8) hour shift.
  • Must be able to administer CPR and be certified.
  • Must be able to see and hear constantly.
  • Must be emotionally and physically capable of functioning under stressful situations.
  • Must be able to stand continuously in increments of 45 minutes to one (1) hour.
  • If recovering, two years of continuous verifiable abstinence.

Nice To Haves

  • Undergraduate degree in Behavioral Science, CRC, or CRSS
  • one year experience in alcohol/drug treatment with direct patient contact

Responsibilities

  • Must be aware of patient locations, at all times, circulating around the facility on a regular basis and document hourly checks.
  • Assure that all patients follow the Bradford Program Schedule and are on time for each assignment.
  • Supervise and sometime facilitate patient activities as directed.
  • Assure the patients are in their rooms at the designated time in the evening.
  • Oversee med line to prevent diversion and to de-escalate situations as they arise.
  • Assist patients to and from activities, medication times, and meals when unable to physically walk.
  • Assist the counselor as assigned and engage in appropriate documentation.
  • Responsible for the adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assist patients in overcoming their denial and resistance to treatment and completion of treatment goals.
  • Demonstrated the ability to manage communities, redirect behavior, and document shift reports.
  • Attend staff training and programs as directed.
  • Assist nurses as directed by supervisor.
  • Drive patients to and from appointments, to include patient outings, as directed.
  • Drive to purchase patient sundries and miscellaneous items; including nicotine products as directed.
  • Must maintain a professional demeanor and appearance, must not appear impaired or disoriented, but rather must present coherent and articulate speech, kept appearance, alert, oriented, and responsive to patients’ needs and concerns.
  • Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness as to perform the job in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers, managers, clients, and prospective clients.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Know and abide by the general provisions of 42 CFR Part2, “Confidentiality of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Patient Records”, and 45 CFR “Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.”
