The Behavioral Health Technician works under the supervision of the professional licensed nurse, performing supportive clinical, as well as clerical functions within the Behavioral Health Inpatient / Substance Use Disorder (SUD) services. Requirements

  • High School Graduate/GED required.
  • CPR certification required within 60 days of hire.
  • Valid State Driver’s License (for SUD services, based on home address of record).

Nice To Haves

  • BA/BS in human services field, or current student in BA/BS/Nursing School preferred.
  • 2 years previous experience in mental health or medical setting preferred.
  • Nurse or medical aide experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the admission process and documents pertinent information, including search of persons/belongings, reviewing unit rules, room assignment, and completion of consent forms.
  • Performs clinical procedures such as accurately obtaining and recording patient vital signs and I & O, performing glucometry, phlebotomy, and EKGs (Inpatient Services), and collecting specimens for screening and diagnostic tests.
  • Supports patients in performing Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as personal hygiene, nutrition, and elimination, and performs necessary physical care.
  • Monitors the therapeutic environment by performing safety checks and patient observations per unit policy, ensuring client safety and compliance to unit guidelines.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly environment and addresses hazards to safety.
  • Accesses emergency services when needed and follows treatment plans as directed by licensed personnel.
  • Interacts with patients to support therapeutic interventions and provide emotional support for recovery.
  • Communicates changes in patient condition or unit milieu concerns to the patient care team.
  • Facilitates patient recreational and therapeutic activities under the direction of professional licensed staff.
  • Demonstrates skill as a member of the Control Team in responding to agitation/violent behavior, including verbal de-escalation, physical restraint, or seclusion (Inpatient).
  • Completes parts of the planned discharge process, including monitoring packing, returning personal belongings, and completing discharge forms.
  • Demonstrates proper chain of command for work-related issues.
  • Maintains clinical records of all patient contact according to policy and regulatory guidelines.
  • Organizes work time to respond to established priorities and uses time effectively during low activity periods.
  • Completes Departmental Orientation Checklist within 90 days of employment and identified competencies annually.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all materials and proper release of information.
  • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding employee, patient, and environmental safety and reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrates/models Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance.
  • Demonstrates Performance Improvement in Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.
  • Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through effective and efficient use of resources.
  • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
  • Provides transportation for persons served per facility regulations (SUD services).
  • Demonstrates appropriate telephone skills.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
