Position Overview The Behavioral Health Technician is a vital member of the Southern Live Oak Wellness System of Care. Under the supervision of the Director of Housing and Transportation, the BHT is responsible for ensuring client safety, monitoring behavior, documenting observations, and maintaining a structured, supportive therapeutic environment. This role is ideal for individuals who are calm under pressure, strong problem-solvers, and interested in growing within the mental health field.

Requirements

  • Ability to interact professionally with clients and staff
  • Strong crisis-management, decision-making, and stress-management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary treatment team
  • Knowledge of substance use disorders and their physical, emotional, and psychological impact
  • Ability to recognize medical emergencies and take appropriate action
  • Familiarity with emergency procedures, overdose response, First Aid, and CPR
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and program needs
  • High School Diploma or GED (required)

Nice To Haves

  • CPR Certification preferred
  • 0–1 year of experience working in mental health, chemical dependency, psychiatric, residential, PHP, or outpatient settings

Responsibilities

  • Maintain continuous supervision and ensure a safe, therapeutic environment
  • Provide consistent support and model appropriate behavior for adult clients
  • Monitor, observe, and document client behavior and participation
  • Conduct client counts and maintain accurate documentation
  • Supervise self-administered medications as directed
  • Assist with implementation of daily and weekly residential structure
  • Complete and submit incident reports and immediately notify leadership of safety concerns
  • Report medical emergencies, elopements, or ACA incidents promptly
  • Complete end-of-shift reports via email to the Director
  • Orient new admissions and complete residential intake documentation
  • Search new client belongings to prevent contraband entry
  • Conduct random residential searches for contraband
  • Monitor transitional living curfews and ensure rule compliance
  • Transport clients to appointments, support groups, activities, and other facilities using company vehicles
  • Attend all staff meetings and mandatory trainings
  • Follow infection control, safety, and facility guidelines at all times
  • Report any illness or symptoms of contagious disease to leadership
