About The Position

Teaching psychosocial rehabilitation classes, conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, offering guidance, and contributing to the overall well-being of clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (psychology, social work, counseling, etc.) or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience working in behavioral health settings, preferably in a teaching or support role.
  • Strong understanding of psychosocial rehabilitation principles and evidence-based practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and responsibilities.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, medical and psychological diagnostic reports, or accreditation and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and related correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from consumers, families, referring agencies, and the general public.
  • Ability to collect data and to understand information related to data obtained.
  • Ability to recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Completion of required background screening as required by Florida Statutes (see HB531 | Florida Agency for Health Care Administration for more information).
  • Valid FL Driver’s License or valid FL ID; including proof of insurance as needed.
  • Knowledge of theories and practices of behavioral modification.
  • Knowledge of medical and psychological terminology and data.
  • Ability to make behavioral observations and express events in clear, concise, written form.
  • Ability to understand capabilities and needs of persons with disabilities.
  • Ability to provide high level, quality work.
  • Ability to remain flexible in the acceptance of the constant flow and interruption of new production training materials, which includes the meeting of production quotas.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in First Aid and CPR, HIV/Aids and Infection Control and all other APD required trainings must be attained within 90 days of employment and must not expire for continued employment.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate and encourage positive, polite interactions with people receiving services in a way that does not reflect personal opinions, values, or negative emotions.
  • Review available information to develop a working knowledge of each person served in regard to types of disabilities, medical, psychiatric and behavioral status, personal goals, as well as training/support methods, then use this information to provide effective, individualized interactions and supervision.
  • Assist people in making choices by educating them about options, discussing pros and cons of possible decisions and respecting choices made, unless it is likely to endanger the health and/or safety of an individual or result in law enforcement involvement.
  • Consistently follow directions given for implementing and documenting training, support and/or behavioral plans without making changes based on personal preferences or style and participate in training to enhance job skills.
  • Interactions with participants are to be primarily positive in nature, ensuring that each receives more attention for desirable statements, actions and efforts than given to those that are undesirable. When needed, corrections are made using brief, instructional statements rather than through longer lectures.
  • If a situation arises that puts the safety of participants or property in immediate jeopardy, a more directive tone of voice be utilized.
  • Develop a Group Therapy Plan weekly on a topic that addresses issues related to the treatment goals of people in attendance; submit for supervisory approval; implement.
  • Plan daily in a manner that encourages group discussions and acquisition of needed skills and document efforts in compliance with program expectations.
  • Incorporate training strategies that address objectives of individual participants into each planned Group Therapy Session and document the interventions, responses, and outcomes of treatment in service notes in compliance with program expectations.
  • Develop and implement 1:1 training session to address individual goals/objectives that may not be effectively taught in a group setting and document the interventions, responses, and outcomes of treatment in service notes in compliance with program expectations.
  • Provide general supervision to insure positive interactions, engagement in activities and safety to all participants while on the program premises.
  • Participate in 12 hours of training on mental health issues each year as well as other topics assigned by Supervisor, in addition to meeting other requirements to remain certified as a Behavioral Health Technician (when applicable).
  • Immediately report any emergency situations or potential safety hazards to the supervisor, as well as information obtained that may affect the health, safety and/or services for a person.
  • Review and comply with all Agency policies, procedures, and directives, as well as those issued by regulatory and funding sources such as Medicaid, AHCA and the Agency for Persons with Disabilities.
  • Maintain appropriate dress, good hygiene, professional behavior and conduct that reflects positively on the agency’s mission and the people it serves.
  • Possess a positive driving record and safe, reliable automobile for routine transportation of people receiving series and for other work functions, sufficient to meet all applicable legal and insurance requirements.
  • Be willing and able to work flexible hours on occasion based on program needs.
