Job Summary: The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides vital support role for all clients. The BHT is responsible for offering overall support to clients and assisting staff as needed across a variety of tasks. As a Behavioral Health Technician, your role includes both clinical and recovery housing responsibilities. Expectations will vary based on your assigned setting. While working in recovery housing, you are responsible for completing housing-related tasks and supporting residents within that environment. While working in a clinical setting, you are responsible for fulfilling clinical support duties and responsibilities. Adhering to the expectations of each role is critical.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a behavioral health or substance use treatment setting.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain).
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and other relevant laws and regulations.
  • Understand and follow emergency procedures, provide first aid and CPR as needed, and maintain a secure environment for clients and staff.
  • Recognize signs of overdose and respond appropriately, including using naloxone and other reversal medications.
  • Recognize signs of suicide risk and respond using trained prevention strategies.
  • Effectively work with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, adapting approaches as needed.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with clients, using active listening and providing concise feedback.
  • Identify and resolve issues in the treatment process using critical and creative thinking.
  • Manage time and resources efficiently, maintain client caseloads, and complete necessary documentation.
  • Adapt to changing client needs and handle unexpected situations effectively.
  • Recognize personal strengths and limitations, using self-awareness to improve practice.
  • Understand and empathize with clients, offering supportive and non-judgmental care.
  • Treat clients with dignity and respect, honoring their unique experiences and perspectives.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor, uphold ethical standards, and dress appropriately for the setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) training program or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support affiliate recovery housing needs, including transportation, grocery shopping, and essential resident needs.
  • Identify and address barriers to treatment participation, including coordination with housing and support services.
  • Conduct random drug screenings and monitor for compliance with sobriety expectations.
  • Facilitate or assist with house meetings and resident accountability processes.
  • Support residents in completing assigned chores and maintaining a clean, safe living environment.
  • Reinforce house rules, structure, and expectations in alignment with recovery housing standards (including ORH guidelines).
  • Monitor resident behavior and report concerns related to safety, compliance, or recovery progress.
  • Provide supportive, non-judgmental peer engagement to residents in housing.
  • Assist in coordinating care between housing and clinical teams to ensure continuity of services.
  • Provide direct support to clients during treatment programming, including peer support, transportation, and engagement within scope of the BHT role.
  • Monitor client progress and report any behavioral changes, concerns, or clinical needs to the treatment team.
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of individualized treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to support treatment goals and adjust plans as needed.
  • Ensure client safety and well-being by enforcing center policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and documentation in compliance with organizational standards.
  • Conduct drug screenings and monitor clients for any signs of substance use.
  • Provide crisis intervention as necessary, ensuring a safe environment.
  • Provide individual case management services to support client engagement, retention, and compliance with treatment services.
  • Assist clients in understanding program expectations and treatment participation requirements.
  • Support clients in navigating treatment systems, scheduling, and documentation platforms.
  • Document all services in accordance with Medicaid, Ohio Department of Behavioral Health, and agency policies.
  • Ensure client safety and well-being by enforcing organizational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain professionalism and ethical standards in all interactions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by clinical, housing, or executive leadership.
