About The Position

Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) - Mental Health at Saline Memorial Hospital. This is a full-time day shift position with varying weekend schedules. The role involves providing basic patient care as delegated by an RN, assisting patients with daily living activities, monitoring vital signs, and reporting any abnormal findings. The technician will also manage the tech desk, support nursing and physician staff, and maintain patient rooms and common areas. Documentation of care and participation in performance improvement and required education are also key aspects of the role.

Requirements

• Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment.
• Rapid learning and navigation of multiple software systems.
• Effective English communication (read/write/speak).
• Ability to complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
• High School diploma preferred.
• 6 months of mental health experience.
• BCLS required.

Nice To Haves

• SRNA or EMT preferred.
• Handle with Care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic patient care as delegated by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possible blood glucose measurements, and accurate intake/output recording.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating, toileting, ambulation).
• Observes and promptly reports abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to nursing staff.
• Maintains clean, safe, and well-stocked patient rooms and common areas.
• Manages the tech desk and supports nursing/physician staff and overall department throughput.
• Documents care and activities per unit standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned; participates in performance improvement and required education.
