About The Position

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) is responsible for the daily supervision and support of clients in a residential behavioral health treatment center serving adolescents with serious emotional, behavioral, and substance use disorders. This role involves planning and carrying out scheduled groups, maintaining communication with staff and clients, meeting with primary clients to help them set daily goals, documenting client progress, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals within the facility. The BHT must adhere to facility protocols, administer medications to self-medicating clients, and utilize trauma-informed interventions. The position requires a minimum age of 21, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint clearance card. Emotional and physical capability to assist in physical escort, restraint, and carrying ill or incapacitated individuals is necessary, as is the ability to assist in searches in mountainous terrain. Confidentiality and professionalism are essential.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 21
  • Has a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma.
  • Evidence of freedom from infectious pulmonary tuberculosis
  • Ability to obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint clearance card (or have a current valid level 1 fingerprint card).
  • Individual judgment, discretion, and decision-making skills.
  • Emotionally and physically able to assist in physical escort and/or restraint.
  • Must be able to help carry an ill, injured, or incapacitated student.
  • Must be physically able to assist in AWOL searches in mountainous terrain.

  • High school Diploma or GED
  • Must maintain flexibility in a fast-paced changing environment.

  • Experience in the behavioral health field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans with the Dorm Supervisor and carries out scheduled groups with clients.
  • Maintains oral and written communication with staff, clients, and others as requested.
  • Meets weekly, at the least, with assigned primary clients, helps clients set daily goals and supports them through their program.
  • Responsible for daily documentation of clients and specific reports pertaining to primary clients.
  • Responsible for primary clients’ clinical chart condition.
  • Supervises clients in accordance with MMYTC protocols (Joint Commission, OBHL, and agency requirements).
  • Carries out activities: games, sports, projects, etc. with clients in following the schedule.
  • Ensures safety of all clients, staff, visitors, and animals.
  • Follows all MMYTC rules and norms, and is supportive of the Mountain Lion Club (MLC).
  • May be needed to transport in MMYTC vehicles.
  • Demonstrates proper methods of cleaning and organizing with the clients.
  • Follows and ensures safety regulations: maintains order, settles disputes, conducts routine head count, checks for safe environment, and prevents the client from harming self and others.
  • Keeps records and may complete incident reports (if applicable).
  • Exemplifies appropriate role model through physical appearance, social skills, professional words and acts, sets clear professional boundaries.
  • Qualified to administer medications to self-medicating clients.
  • Utilizes trained, trauma-informed interventions to challenge unhealthy behaviors to achieve a desired resolution to conflict.
  • Adheres to Mingus policy and practice concerning creation, editing, transmission, storage, and disposition of all Protected Health Information in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Receives 1 hour or more of clinical oversight every 2-week period.
