About The Position

The PRN Behavioral Health Technician provides direct client care, supervision, and support services to individuals receiving residential mental health and/or substance use disorder treatment. The BHT assists in maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and structured environment while supporting clients in achieving treatment goals. This position works collaboratively with nursing, clinical, medical, dietary, and leadership staff to promote client recovery and well-being. This position works on an as-needed basis to provide coverage for staffing shortages, employee absences, increased census, admissions, discharges, and other operational needs. The BHT serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and promotes a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-oriented environment for clients.

Requirements

  • Valid Colorado driver's license
  • Requires current basic life support certificate for healthcare providers (BLS/AED) or CPR/First Aid and AED.
  • QMAP certified
  • Working knowledge of Google Workspace, and EHR/EMR or the ability to learn to use these programs
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations and 42 CFR Part 2 requirements, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • General knowledge of substance use and co-occurring disorders or the ability to obtain
  • Ability to handle pressure and stressful situations with tact
  • Ability to move quickly during emergency situations
  • Empathetic and willingness to listen and respect client goals and needs
  • Skilled at embracing cultural diversity and exhibiting cultural competence
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
  • Ability to de-escalate emotionally charged situations.

  • Strong observation and documentation skills.
  • Satisfactory results from a criminal background investigation, which will include state and federal records
  • Verification of credentials and prior employment, where applicable
  • A driving record check for any major or related infractions
  • A negative result on a drug screening test.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the intake process by inventorying client belongings and collecting urine and breath samples
  • May assist with vital signs
  • Conduct routine client safety checks and room checks.
  • Share client observations, concerns, and/or needs with medical/clinical team
  • Escort clients to events outside of the agency such as outdoor adventures, appointments, and to and from other various locations.
  • Maintain awareness of client whereabouts and account for all clients.
  • Assist in crisis situations according to facility policies and de-escalation training.
  • Assist with referral and discharge resourcing and planning.
  • Build professional, supportive relationships with clients.
  • Encourage participation in treatment activities, groups, appointments, and recovery programming.
  • Provide emotional support and positive reinforcement.
  • Model healthy communication, coping skills, and appropriate boundaries.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate psychoeducational, life skills, recreational, or recovery-oriented groups as assigned.
  • Complete timely and accurate shift notes, observation logs, incident reports, and communication logs.
  • Document client behaviors, participation, concerns, and significant events.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 requirements.
  • Observe and document medication self-administration.
  • Assist nursing staff with medication-related tasks within scope of training.
  • Monitor for medication side effects or adverse reactions and immediately report concerns to nursing staff.
  • Maintain medication security procedures as assigned.
  • Transport clients to appointments, meetings, recreational activities, and community outings when authorized. May occasionally pick up or drop off clients to other locations.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision during community activities.
  • Ensure safe operation of company vehicles and compliance with "Vehicle Safety Emergency P&P". Documenting start and end mileage and any maintenance issues/concerns. Inform the direct supervisor of those issues/concerns as well.
  • Conduct environmental safety inspections.
  • Monitor facility cleanliness and report maintenance concerns.
  • Support infection control and safety practices.
  • Participate in shift reports and treatment team communications.
  • Communicate client concerns promptly to nursing and clinical staff.
  • Support facility goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain respectful and professional working relationships with coworkers, clients, vendors, and visitors.
  • Attend required staff meetings and trainings
  • Participate in emergency drills and evacuation procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned/required
