About The Position

Kindred Hospital Dayton and Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) is a 97-bed hospital with 51 long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) beds and a 46-bed behavioral health unit. The behavioral health unit offers treatment for adults ages 18+, including dedicated services for geriatric patients, with 24-hour supervised psychiatric treatment and crisis support. The unit partners with physicians to offer 24-hour clinical care seven days a week. The hospital is located downtown Dayton near the I-75 and I-35 junction.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience working in a psychiatric inpatient setting.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire
  • NCI -Non-violent Crisis Intervention or current program Within Facility-Specified time frame
  • Must adhere to regularly scheduled hours and plan absences in advance to assure the unit staffing and safety.
  • Must read, write and speak fluent English.
  • Must have good and regular attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent including education equivalent to completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting functional analyses of patient behavior.
  • Participating as a member of the treatment team.
  • Contributing to the master treatment plan.
  • Implementing appropriate interventions from the plan.
  • Conducting individual and group psychoeducation, leisure activities, and life-skill training and coaching for all patients.
  • Safety monitoring of patients and of the unit.
  • Maintaining professional development such as BLS and de-escalation training and certification.
  • Observing and monitoring patient’s status according to patient monitoring standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Reporting patient complaints or other concerns in a timely manner.
  • Providing verbal and written input to nursing staff via ongoing reporting and end of shift report.
  • Providing care to patients, orienting to the unit, transport, de-escalation, teaching of coping skills, conflict resolution, problem solving skills, assistance with activities of daily living, admission & discharge procedures, response to codes, use of de-escalation techniques and life coaching skills.
  • Ongoing observations and evaluation of patient/family response to the interventions, reporting changes in condition to the nurse assigned.
  • Co-leading patient psycho-educational groups on the unit and providing care consistent with the master treatment plan.
  • Ensuring active treatment is occurring on the unit as scheduled and encouraging all patients to participate in unit groups and programming.
  • Providing timely and accurate information on patients’ behaviors and progress to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Serving in a Supervisory or Lead role, as requested.
  • Conducting individual life coaching, psycho-educational and supportive counseling to assigned patients.
  • Providing leadership and/or co-leadership of group therapy sessions related to leisure skills, life skills, and psychoeducation.
  • Leading and/or actively participating in the management of acute behavioral episodes using approved de-escalation techniques.
  • Adjusting to changes in a professional manner.
  • Intervening quickly in an emergency to move patients away from the situation and maintain patient, staff, and personal safety.
  • Being involved in a physical escort, hold or restraint to minimize the risk of injury to patients or staff.
  • Adhering to regularly scheduled hours and planning absences in advance to assure unit staffing and safety.
  • Reading, writing and speaking fluent English.
  • Maintaining good and regular attendance.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
