This role assists, monitors, and/or maintains patients' activities of daily living (ADL's). The Behavioral Health Tech (BHT) orients patients and their families/significant others to the unit and hospital. They escort patients to various locations, supervising and managing their behaviors as required. The BHT performs vital signs on patients and receives direction from the RN, communicating significant or unusual occurrences in patient behavior. They document pertinent observations/occurrences in the patient's medical records according to policy, and defuse and report crisis situations, intervening when appropriate and using proper procedures. The BHT maintains a safe and therapeutic environment by assisting with groups, setting limits on patients, and following established safety and risk management policies and procedures. They perform patient rounding at designated intervals and document appropriately.
