The Foster Care Behavioral Health Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting foster children and their families by building relationships, maintaining communication with families and external providers, and managing daily logistics. Services can be delivered through various methods including telehealth, outpatient offices, home visits, and community-based settings. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (e.g., psychology, etc.)

  • Ability to customarily and regularly exercise discretion and good professional judgment
  • Flexible; able to work days, evenings, holidays and/or weekends, as desired to meet the needs of clients

  • Ability to maintain relevant, timely documentation as required.
  • Effective computer literacy skills, including Windows applications, Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic health records, etc.
  • Must be able to access work locations, offices, and homes as necessary, which may include ascending/descending stairs.
  • Possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record and valid insurance.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment screenings, including drug tests, background checks, and any other required assessments, such as a physical examination and TB test.

Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with and maintain consistent communication with family and external providers to help manage the daily logistics of the foster children and their birth or foster/adoptive families.
  • Monitor client symptoms and response to treatment, communicating changes to the treatment team for timely interventions.
  • Develop and maintain a service relationship with clients, family, and caregivers, providing support as needed.
  • Coordinate community resources such as schools, referral sources, and outpatient behavioral health providers to ensure continuity of care, acting as a client advocate.
  • Provide crisis intervention consultation during emergencies for coordination and assistance in crisis management and stabilization.
  • Facilitate appointments to ensure overall physical well-being, including basic, mental health, and substance use needs.
  • Review Diagnostic Evaluations and additional assessments to aid in the ongoing development and implementation of a client’s individualized treatment plan (ITP).
  • Attend and participate in agency/team/clinical meetings, including mandatory training and treatment coordination.
  • Perform related administrative responsibilities, including maintaining client information, reports, records, and responding to communications in a timely manner.
  • Accurately and promptly document and maintain the confidentiality of client and family interactions, including legal, financial, and clinical documentation within agency guidelines.
  • Meet with Supervisor for weekly supervision.
  • Maintain ongoing frequent contact with other assigned OhioGuidestone professionals, parents, or outside agency professionals assigned to the case.
  • Exhibit positivity, flexibility, and a willingness to take on new responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate positive leadership, promote a team-based work environment, and foster a culture of belonging.
  • Represent the Agency positively in all internal and external interactions.
