About The Position

Seeking qualified candidates throughout the Lower Hudson Valley including Westchester, Rockland, Dutchess and Orange. Positions are PER DIEM (ON CALL) with a flexible schedule. The Behavioral Health Specialist may provide various services to children and families based on training, experience, and qualifications, ensuring they meet the minimum educational requirements for each service. Services include Prevocational Services to prepare youth for work, Respite care for children with disabilities and their families (planned or crisis), Supported Employment to help individuals obtain and maintain jobs, Caregiver/Family Advocacy and Support Services to enhance family functioning and understanding of the child's needs, and Community Habilitation to assist children with disabilities in developing self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills.

Requirements

  • Prevocational Services: AA/AS plus 1 year of experience or a BA with 1 year of experience.
  • Respite Services: High School Diploma with experience.
  • Supported Employment Services: AA/AS plus 1 year of experience or a BA/BS with 1 year of experience.
  • Caregiver/Family Advocacy and Support Services: BA with 2 years of experience or a MA with 1 year of experience.
  • Community Habilitation: High School Diploma with experience.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; talk and listen, and taste or smell.
  • Frequently required to walk.
  • Occasionally required to keep balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able to use a computer and learn software programs.
  • Required to operate a fax, copier, scan, and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write fluently in the English language.
  • Must be able to write in the English language using correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.
  • May frequently lift 0-25 lbs., occasionally lift 25-50 lbs., and rarely lift over 50 lbs.
  • May frequently push/pull 0-25 lbs. of force, occasionally push/pull 26-45 lbs. force, and rarely push/pull over 45 lbs.
  • Will be required to sit, stand and walk throughout the work day.
  • May occasionally stoop.
  • May occasionally kneel.
  • May occasionally crouch.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Prevocational Services to prepare youth (age 14+) for paid work, volunteer work, or career exploration, focusing on facilitating success in any work environment and teaching appropriate work habits.
  • Offer Respite services, including planned short-term relief for families/caregivers and crisis intervention for children/youth experiencing mental health/substance use crises, medical crises, or trauma.
  • Provide Supported Employment services to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining individual jobs in competitive or customized employment settings.
  • Deliver Caregiver/Family Advocacy and Support Services to enhance the child/youth's ability to function within the family unit and improve the caregiver/family's ability to care for the child/youth.
  • Assist children/youth with disabilities through Community Habilitation services to develop self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills.
  • Oversee and execute all program requirements as assigned.
  • Properly document all necessary information on each child for billing purposes.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings to provide updates.
  • Report all Serious Reportable and Recordable Incidents to the Supervisor.
  • Comply with Abbott House's policies, procedures, and time frames for reporting, documenting, and billing.
  • Utilize knowledge of evidence-based practice and complex trauma.
  • Perform any other related duties as required.
