Requirements

• Possesses a current, valid certification as a medical assistant in the State of Iowa or obtains the certification within 12 months of employment.
• Basic Life Support Certification.
• High school diploma or GED required.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Behavioral Health Specialist (CBHS) Certification Preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs clinical duties as requested by provider/supervisor.
• Obtains medical and social history.
• Completes mental health screens and education.
• Obtains and records vital signs and measurements in EHR.
• Prepares specimens for processing.
• Prepares routine procedures as required per patient visit (including EKGs, PPD placements/readings and immunizations).
• Distributes medication to patients as directed by nursing staff and/or providers.
• Checks laboratory controls and receives results.
• Performs clerical duties to assist with the patient workflow.
• Pulls, prepares, and files medical charts.
• Gathers patient information, and records changes indicated on the encounter form.
• Schedules follow-up appointments as necessary.
• Completes any necessary paperwork for referrals and follow-up appointments.
• Addresses patient questions and concerns via phone calls in a professional manner.
• Connects with patients to identify barriers to treatment.
• Familiar with community resources for when immediate care is not available.
• Follows up with patients that are provided with community resources.
• Creates and maintains positive relationships with community resources.
• Maintains database of community resources with updated contacts.
• Provides education to behavioral health providers about new community resources.
• Other duties as assigned.
