About The Position

The Behavioral Health Nursing Assistant (Certified or Non-Certified), also referred to as a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant or Mental Health Nursing Assistant, provides care for patients with mental health or behavioral challenges. The role assists with daily activities, monitors behavior, and promotes a safe, supportive environment. The assistant collaborates with the healthcare team to provide emotional support, identify changes in patient condition, and help de-escalate potentially critical situations. Entry-level applicants and applicants without prior experience are encouraged to apply. The position is full-time, day shift, with 12-hour hours from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., in the Behavioral Health department at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Alabama.

Requirements

Current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate upon hire is required.
Current BLS upon hire and maintenance of current certification is required.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Entry-level applicants and applicants with no prior experience are welcome to apply.

Nice To Haves

At least six months of previous experience in an acute care hospital or physician’s office is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist patients with daily activities, including bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, and ambulation.
Monitor and report changes in patients’ behavior, mood, or physical condition to nurses or doctors, including signs of agitation, self-harm, or aggression.
Help maintain a safe, structured environment and use de-escalation techniques to calm distressed or agitated patients.
Accurately document behavior, interventions, and vital signs, and communicate effectively with the care team.
Encourage patients to participate in group activities or therapy sessions, offer emotional support, and help build trust with patients.
Help clean and maintain patient rooms and ensure equipment and supplies are stocked.
