About The Position

NaphCare is hiring a Behavioral Health Mid-Level to join our team of medical and mental health professionals in the Alabama Department of Corrections - William E Donaldson in Bessemer, Alabama. As a Behavioral Health Mid-Level, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical and mental health professionals to ensure regulatory compliance, manage budgets, supervise multidisciplinary clinical staff, and develop community partnerships to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have various duties to keep you engaged. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex mental health and medical needs. The Behavioral Health Mid-Level is responsible for strategic planning, operational oversight, and clinical leadership of mental health and substance abuse programs within the facility.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field.
  • Holds an active, unrestricted licensure as a (LCSW, LCMHC, LMFT, LMHP, LISW, etc.) in Alabama.
  • Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification.
  • Has a minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in behavioral health, including clinical and administrative leadership in a mental health care or acute care setting.
  • Strong leadership, budgetary analysis, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Effective communications skills required for building patient rapport and relaying information and treatment plan with other medical and mental health care professionals.
  • Strong organizational skills are needed to keep track of patient treatment plans and progress notes.
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Correctional healthcare experience preferred.
  • American Heart Association preferred for BLS CPR Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Defines department goals, develops policies, and oversees daily operations to improve mental health services.
  • Oversees treatment services, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices and high standards of care.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as accreditation standards.
  • Investigates critical incidents and manages risks.
  • Directs recruitment, hiring, training, and performance evaluation of clinical staff (social workers, counselors, therapists).
  • Prepares, manages, and oversees the department budget and ensures financial viability.
  • Collaborating with medical, mental health and correctional staff to enhance quality patient care while maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
  • Monitoring compliance with site-specific and company policies and procedures, taking appropriate corrective action, and ensuring compliance with ACA, NCCHC standards.
