About The Position

Under the general direction of the Behavioral Health Director, plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the services of the Substance Abuse Program and Intern Training Program within Behavioral Health Services at UIHS.  Assists the Director in the over-all administration of the Behavioral Health department.  Supervises the work of professional, technical, and clerical staff.  Provides appropriate and culturally sensitive direct services to UIHS clients. This position requires a high degree of professional knowledge in the areas of both Mental Health and Substance Abuse treatment/support services.  This position is primarily clinical with direct client care representing approximately three out of five days.

Requirements

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Clinical Psychologist with five years or more of clinical experience. 
  • Must have two years’ experience in clinical supervision and program management. 
  • Must have two years’ work experience in either direct services or management of Substance Abuse Services.
  • Must meet the Board of Behavioral Sciences requirements to provide clinical supervision to Interns, Associates, Trainees and Students.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates with the Behavioral Health Director departmental goals, objectives and plans to enable the department to provide high quality, culturally sensitive and effective services to UIHS clients.
  • Develops Substance Abuse and Intern Training Programs to maximize provision of services to the community and to ensure compliance with current standards of practice.   
  • Assign caseloads and other duties, and coordinate activities of staff in providing treatment services to assist clients.
  • Provides individual and group clinical supervision and case consultation for analyzing clinical issues and improving treatment skills.
  • Reviews electronic records, evaluates performance of staff members, and recommends indicated action.
  • Completes evaluations, timesheet approval for all supervised staff, and monitor staff attendance, timeliness to work, and other work patterns.
  • Provides individual, family, and group counseling to a small caseload of clients; provide crisis counseling as needed.
  • Responsible for the orientation and training of Substance Abuse Providers, Interns, Associates, Trainees and Students and other assigned staff. Schedules training with specific staff for direct training. 
  • Promotes and supports staff development activities.
  • Utilizes good communication skills to maintain positive relationships with co-workers, clients, providers, and other departments in the agency.  Promotes working and collaborative relationships with community agencies.
  • Attends meetings as assigned.
  • Maintains a professional, organized, clean working environment by following organizational policies, guidelines, and safety standards.
  • Must be willing to learn more about the American Indian culture and attend at least one Cultural Presentation/Training per year. 
  • Must be willing to work with American Indian/Alaska Native people and demonstrate cultural awareness and humility 
  • Must be willing to deliver services in a culturally responsive manner. 
  • Adheres to accreditation and compliance standards/guideline
  • Other duties may be assigned.
