About The Position

Mental Health Cooperative, Inc. (MHC) is seeking a fully licensed clinician (LPC-MHSP or LMFT or LCSW) to perform a combination of behavioral health clinical tasks. MHC was formed in 1993 to serve individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and has since expanded services to children and adolescents with severe emotional disorders across Middle and East Tennessee. The organization's sole purpose is to support and treat those challenged with serious mental illness and poverty. This role involves performing intake assessments, providing counsel with an emphasis on prevention and recovery, and working with individuals and groups to promote optimum mental health. The clinician will help individuals deal with complex and comorbid diagnoses, including serious persistent mental health illness, addictions and substance abuse, family and parenting problems, social determinants of health challenges, suicide, stress management, self-esteem issues, and problems associated with aging, physical, mental, and emotional health. The position is Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, with a compensation of $55k-$65k depending on experience, plus a $2,500 sign-on bonus.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree (M.A., M.S.) in a Mental Health field
  • Must be licensed with either LPC/MHSP, LCSW, or LMFT in the state of TN
  • Valid Tennessee Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Perform face-to-face intake for consumers referred to MHC and assess for care management, medication management, or therapy eligibility.
  • Complete all intake evaluation paperwork, including initial intake, grief assessments when needed, and any other necessary paperwork.
  • Determine an individual’s appropriateness for care management, medication management, or therapy and assign accordingly.
  • Disposition consumers to appropriate agencies for other mental health services when ineligible for care management.
  • Identify individuals in need of MCRT services rather than a routine intake and facilitate crisis action if appropriate.
  • Assist in resolving any grievances received from a consumer regarding referral.
  • Fill in for Admissions Coordinator as indicated by supervisor.
  • Utilize Intake Committee for consumers meeting criteria with a history of violence, sexual crimes, or serious criminal activity, and email completed intake for review.
  • Contact consumers with the decision from the Intake Committee.
  • Utilize evidence-based therapeutic frameworks to counsel consumers and patients individually and in group sessions to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes.
  • Guide consumers in developing skills and strategies for dealing with their problems using evidence-based modalities.
  • Encourage consumers to express their feelings and discuss their lives, helping them develop insight into themselves and their relationships.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge.
  • Modify treatment activities and approaches as needed to comply with changes in consumer status.
  • Stay updated on new developments in the field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, and maintaining contact with other social service agencies.
  • Counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting consumers.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and consumer progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives.
  • Refer patients, consumers, or family members to community resources or specialists as necessary.
  • Meet with families, clinic providers, care managers, and other interested parties to exchange necessary information during the treatment process.
  • Collaborate with other staff members, primary care practice partners (pediatricians, doctors, nurse practitioners, office staff), and referral sources as assigned to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans.
  • Meet productivity standards as indicated by department goals.
