About The Position

This position involves providing specialized clinical services within a residential setting. The clinician will engage clients, conduct assessments for co-occurring disorders, develop and implement treatment plans, and provide therapeutic interventions. Collaboration with a diagnostic team, other providers, and community agencies is essential. The role requires a strong understanding of mental health, substance abuse, and trauma-informed care principles.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a Limited Licensed Psychologist (LLP), Licensed Psychologist (LP), Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW), or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) from the State of Michigan.
  • Meet qualifications of a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) per the Michigan PIHP/CMHSP Provider Qualifications per Medicaid Services.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator or chauffeur's license.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of co-occurring disorders (mental health and substance abuse).

Responsibilities

  • Engage clients in a welcoming, hopeful, empathetic manner even during acute phase.
  • Screen for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Implement integrated strength-based assessment interviews to assess the presence, onset, symptoms and patterns of substance use, behavioral and psychiatric disorders.
  • Assess for acute needs and risk and provide/arrange for appropriate stage wise intervention.
  • Evaluate the interaction between two disorders (mental health and substance abuse) and their relationship to significant life events.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of diagnostic criteria for psychiatric and substance use disorders.
  • Record assessment, treatment plan, progress, and other significant client information for agency case records.
  • Participate as a team member on a diagnostic team for the purpose of developing joint clinical assessments of consumers.
  • Review case records for quality, appropriateness, and progress of treatment plans.
  • Collaborate and communicate with other providers (MH and SA) and supports to ensure continued care.
  • Provide therapeutic intervention on a limited, short-term basis.
  • Offer crisis intervention as needed and individual, group, conjoint and/or family therapy.
  • Evaluate the progress of individuals on an ongoing basis.
  • Perform assessments for diagnostic purposes, interview clients and others related to the case, and review applicable case history to determine needs.
  • Analyze clinical histories for diagnostic purposes, and develop individualized treatment plans for clients.
  • Perform case management functions and act as a liaison with school and/or vocational personnel and other community agencies to refer clients, formulate and execute treatment plans, and provide educational and consultative services.
  • Authorize medically necessary services for all consumers.
  • Provide education and consultative services to help clients, families and support persons understand disorders, recovery phases, service options, and treatment course.
  • Encourage participation in 12-step, DRA, peer support, and link to community supports.
  • Provide support, education, and reinforce the use of prescribed medication to treat both substance use and/or psychiatric disorders.
  • Develop individualized and person-centered treatment plans for SA, MH, and COD that reflect proper treatment matching, including specific goals, objectives, and stage/phase specific treatment interventions.
  • Collaborate with Residential providers and educate provider staff on specifics related to treatment plans.
  • Prioritize community resources and supports as a strategy to assist clients with meeting their needs.
  • Assist clients with identifying changes in behavior, attitude, feeling, and thought that are triggers for relapse.
  • Assist in the development of a relapse prevention/crisis plan utilizing personal, community, and provider supports.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of principles of trauma-informed care.
  • Support and assist consumers with trauma-related issues.
