About The Position

The Behavioral Health Clinical Assistant will coordinate comprehensive behavioral health nursing for patients in a safe, therapeutic manner, consistent with established standards and current hospital policies and procedures. This role will also act as a liaison to facilitate patient care between patients, mental health providers, and physicians.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent from a department of education accredited program required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant certification or Florida LPN license.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required.
  • Must have thorough education or training in the basics of medical terminology.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to multi-task while working in a high-volume work environment required.
  • Able to work effectively with team members, supervisors, patients and their families to accomplish team goals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computers and proficiency in the use of an electronic health record system required.

  • Ability to commute independently between assigned clinic locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of web-based programs and Microsoft Office suite of products including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care under the supervision of a licensed professional.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in performing ordered treatments.
  • Prepares patient for procedure or examination. Including but not limited to the use of telehealth equipment.
  • Prepares and administers medications with knowledge of action, mode, side effects and contraindications under the direction of the medical provider. Observes patient for immediate effects of medication as appropriate.
  • Performs basic lab procedures appropriately and demonstrates ability to perform venipuncture. Obtain laboratory samples and complete paperwork as ordered by provider.
  • Screens and follows up on patient test results. Notifies providers of critical test results.
  • Performs patient care and communications within the guidelines of the Relationship and Results Oriented Healthcare Model utilizing the recommended bundles of best practice.
  • Communicates and completes handoff documentation for effective handoff of patients care for direct admission.
  • Required to have knowledge related to The Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, ACHA, and any other Health care agency related to the outpatient setting.
  • Consistently demonstrates an awareness of patient rights and functions as the patient’s advocate.
  • Provides and explains education material to patients, families and caregivers.
  • Performs clerical tasks such scheduling follow-up appointments, obtaining insurance authorizations, coordinating patient referrals and FMLA paperwork.
