About The Position

The Behavioral Health Attendant, Day Shift plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment for patients while supporting their treatment plans and daily care needs. This position provides direct patient supervision, assists with behavioral interventions, and helps promote patient safety, dignity, and independence.

  • Performing administrative duties (scheduling, ordering supplies, maintaining records, answering phones)
  • Administering and documenting medications under RN direction
  • Managing aggressive behaviors
  • Providing basic first aid, CPR, and Heimlich maneuver
  • Maintaining reliable attendance
  • Working onsite during assigned shifts

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and security of residents while maintaining order throughout the facility, including safely restraining residents when necessary.
  • Escort residents to therapy sessions, activities, and off-site medical, dental, or legal appointments while maintaining appropriate security.
  • Assist in implementing individualized treatment plans.
  • Monitor patients during meals, classroom activities, bathroom breaks, and in common areas.
  • Observe, document, and report changes in patient behavior and condition.
  • Utilize therapeutic interventions, including de-escalation, redirection, and approved behavior management techniques.
  • Assist residents with maintaining clean living spaces, clothing, and personal belongings.
  • Secure facility access points, search visitors, operate communication equipment, issue keys, and escort visitors as needed.
  • Conduct room searches for contraband to help maintain a safe environment.
  • Teach and reinforce daily living skills, positive behaviors, and treatment plan goals using motivational techniques.
  • Assess clients' training needs to support treatment objectives and successful transitional living.
  • Provide guidance regarding appropriate social behaviors and interpersonal skills.
  • Create a safe, supportive environment that promotes self-esteem, learning, and independence.
  • Coordinate client activities under professional supervision by adapting treatment plans to meet individual needs.
  • Develop community living skills through activities such as grocery shopping, using public transportation, and accessing community resources.
  • Manage and distribute client funds in accordance with treatment plans while teaching budgeting and money management skills.
  • Assist with occupational and recreational therapy programs that promote independent living.
  • Perform routine administrative duties, including scheduling, ordering supplies, maintaining records, and answering unit phones.
  • Obtain medications from the pharmacy and administer and document medications under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
  • Assist in managing aggressive behaviors while maintaining a therapeutic environment.
  • Provide basic first aid, including CPR and the Heimlich maneuver, when necessary.
  • Maintain reliable attendance, as working onsite during assigned night shifts is an essential function of this position.
