Behavioral Direct Support Professional / Caregiver
About The Position
Join Dungarvin's mission-driven team as a Behavioral Support Professional / Caregiver in Madison, WI. You will work directly with individuals needing assistance, including those with intellectual or developmental disabilities, or other complex medical needs. This role involves providing person-centered supports to help people live as independently as possible. You will assist in a residential group home, helping individuals achieve various outcomes, assisting with personal cares, and facilitating normalization and community integration. The role requires providing support and mentorship with daily activities such as meals, cleaning, housekeeping, laundry, and facilitating fun activities. You will also provide hands-on mentoring to foster independence, positive direction to help individuals achieve personal goals, and administer medications while ensuring well-being. For those interested in a Behavioral DSP role, prior experience with intense high behaviors (verbal and physical) is sought. You will support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health, behavioral, and/or significant medical challenges. Patience, good decision-making, and crisis management skills are essential, as is comfort with challenging behaviors. Prior experience in IDD, mental health, psychiatric, and/or security is strongly preferred.
Requirements
- Valid Drivers License (due to transporting persons served)
- Excitement for working with adults with disabilities
- High school diploma or GED certificate
- Good communication skills (reading, writing, and communication skills to document care, follow support plans, and collaborate with both internal and external team members)
- A successful background clearance is required
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Candidates must be comfortable driving company vehicles to transport persons served as required
- Prior experience with intense high behaviors, both verbal and physical (for Behavioral DSP role)
- Patience, good decision making and crisis management skills (for Behavioral DSP role)
Nice To Haves
- Prior IDD, mental health, psychiatric, and/or security experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience with adults with mental health issues, disabilities or related experience
- Some positions / locations may require own personal vehicle and auto-liability insurance based on the role
Responsibilities
- Support and mentorship with daily activities to those we support in a manner that ensures their health and safety.
- Helping with meals, cleaning, housekeeping, laundry duties and facilitating fun activities.
- Hands-on mentoring to those we serve to help them become more independent.
- Provide positive direction to the individuals to encourage them to achieve their personal goals.
- Provide medication administration and ensure person's medical well being.
- Provide supports to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, people who are faced with metal health, behavioral, and/or significant medical challenges.
