About The Position

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Shenandoah provides specialized inpatient behavioral and medical care for children and adolescents with complex behavioral health needs. Our hospital delivers structured, multidisciplinary treatment in a safe and supportive environment where patients receive intensive care, therapeutic intervention, and medical oversight. Our clinical teams work together to provide compassionate care while maintaining a secure and structured therapeutic setting for patients, families, and staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Nice To Haves

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification
  • Paramedic certification
  • Behavioral Health Technician experience
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
  • Security or safety response training
  • Associate degree in healthcare, psychology, or related field
  • Inpatient behavioral health or psychiatric settings
  • Emergency medical services
  • Emergency department technician roles
  • Pediatric or adolescent healthcare settings
  • Crisis response or safety-related roles
  • Military or first responder experience

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a visible safety presence on assigned patient units.
  • Monitor patient behavior and identify early signs of escalation.
  • Assist nursing and clinical staff with behavioral interventions and safety measures.
  • Support the clinical team in maintaining a structured therapeutic environment.
  • Participate in behavioral response calls when patient safety concerns arise.
  • Respond promptly to behavioral emergencies.
  • Assist with approved behavioral management and de-escalation techniques.
  • Support the clinical team during high-risk patient situations.
  • Assist with patient redirection, mobility, and safety interventions when clinically indicated and properly trained.
  • Provide direct patient observation when assigned.
  • Assist patients with movement and transitions throughout the unit as directed by clinical staff.
  • Maintain awareness of environmental safety risks and report concerns promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Communicate observations related to patient behavior and safety concerns to clinical staff.
  • Support interdisciplinary teams in maintaining safe patient care operations.
  • Consistently supports and communicates the Mission, Vision, and Values of Nexus Health Systems.
  • Upholds corporate compliance standards and policies.
  • Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Complies with all Federal and State laws and regulations governing patient care.
  • Adheres to all Nexus Health Systems policies and procedures.
