About The Position

Alternatives, Inc. in Hillsborough, NJ is seeking a full-time Behavior Technician to provide support services to adults with developmental disabilities. For over 40 years, Alternatives, Inc. has been dedicated to offering comprehensive support, including residential, behavior support, employment, support coordination, and recreation, to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental illnesses. The organization's mission is to enable clients to achieve their highest level of independence and integration into the community through a person-centered philosophy. As a Behavior Technician, you will work in a residential group home, ensuring the comfort and safety of clients, assisting with daily living activities such as medication administration, meal preparation, personal hygiene, and transportation to appointments. You will also be responsible for implementing individual behavioral plans, teaching new skills, and helping clients achieve their goals through effective teaching and mentoring. Additionally, you will encourage clients' interests, facilitate community outings and recreational activities, report health and safety concerns, and maintain accurate documentation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks and a drug screen
  • Clear tuberculosis (TB) screening
  • Ability to pass and maintain required trainings such as CPR/first aid, medication administration, and positive behavioral support training
  • Basic computer skills

  • Able to remain calm and professional in challenging situations

Responsibilities

  • Support adults with developmental disabilities
  • Ensure the comfort and safety of each client
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living such as administering medication, cooking meals, performing personal hygiene, and transportation to medical appointments
  • Assist in the implementation of individual behavioral plans
  • Teach new skills and help clients achieve goals using effective teaching and mentoring techniques
  • Encourage clients' interests and drive them to community outings and recreational activities based on preferences and behavioral plans
  • Report any concerns about clients' health and safety
  • Keep documentation accurate and up-to-date
