About The Position

The Behavior Technician Supervisor (BTS) is the bridge between Behavior Support Technicians (BSTs), people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and day-to-day operations of Individual Supported living (ISL). You will encourage and mentor individuals and Behavior Support Technicians by supporting them in maximizing their full potential. The BTS role is involved in providing training and supports to all aspects of individuals life activities and to BSTs working within their assigned clients' home (ISL). Training and support for individuals includes: Daily life skills of: Cooking, Cleaning, Hygiene, Purchasing of groceries, Food preparation, Medication administration, Behavioral care, Community participation, Management of personal funds. Training and support for BSTs and the ISL includes assisting the Program Supervisor in: Helping implement personal plans (the story of the individual you’re serving including their history, goals, and achievements), Implementing and communicating directives, Maintaining necessary records and reports, Contributing to the development and maintenance of a therapeutic environment (keeping their houses happy and cozy). The Behavioral Technician Supervisor assists the Program Supervisor, or other management staff member in the management and supervision of individuals served in a residential facility with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This is an hourly, non-exempt position. A Behavioral Technician Supervisor provides support to individuals who have some form of Intellectual Disability/Developmental Disability as well as a Psychiatric/Behavioral Diagnosis, and/or Autism Spectrum Disorders or Autistic Tendencies. These individuals are prone to poor social and communication skills, exhibiting impulsive behaviors, poor decision making, and verbal/physical aggression. Behavioral Observation and Assessment and Crisis Intervention and Prevention Skills are used on a daily basis. An employee in this class provides assistance and training to assigned individuals served in dressing, bathing, personal hygiene, house cleaning, laundry, and other activities of daily living. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the purchasing of groceries, training in food preparation, administering medications, and assisting in the management of personal funds. In the absence of the Program Supervisor or other management staff, the Behavioral Technician Supervisor functions as a supervisor for an assigned team in implementing and coordinating all developmental activities within the residential setting in the provision of active habilitation programming including, but not limited to, improving client self-help skills, economic self-sufficiency, socialization, leisure skills, mobility, communication, etc. Work involves overall responsibility for the health and well-being of individuals served, insuring staff coverage, reporting and recording observations, circulating and implementing directives, and for maintaining necessary records and reports. Supervision is received from Program Supervisor or other professional staff member; however, the employee is expected to exercise independent judgment and initiative within the limit of established policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Diploma from an accredited high school or equivalent.
  • Six months experience providing direct care, treatment, and habilitation in the human service field.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work with and respect persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to work varied and flexible hours, to accept and adapt to changes in assignments, methods, policies, etc.
  • Knowledge of basic non-professional techniques used in assisting in the care, treatment and habilitative programming for individuals with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of advanced behavior support techniques.
  • Knowledge of the principles of management and supervision of personnel.
  • Ability to supervise, review and evaluate the work of assigned personnel.
  • Ability to administer medications to individuals served, in accordance with agency policies and procedures, after certification by the State of Missouri and facility officials.
  • Ability to implement and supervise individual and group habilitation programs designed to improve each individual served self help skills, economic self sufficiency, socialization, leisure skills, mobility, communication and personal health.
  • Ability to accurately report, record observations, and supervise these activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, lift up to 50 lbs., and pull and push items.
  • Ability to maintain a record of punctuality and attendance.
  • Ability to be organized and efficient to complete all listed duties in a timely manner.
  • The Behavioral Technician Supervisor will also need to follow the chain of command and be able to ask for help when needed.
  • A licensed and insured driver.
  • Ability to obtain a class E drivers license if driving persons served in an Arc vehicle.
  • Successfully complete a course in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid.
  • Successfully complete a 16 hours course in Medication Administration.
  • Successfully complete a 10 course in MANDT System Workshop.
  • Successfully complete a course in OSHA regulations on Health and Safety.
  • Successfully complete a course in Abuse & Neglect.
  • Successfully complete a course in Electronic Documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing direct care, treatment and habilitation to individuals who have intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and/or behavior disorders is preferred.
  • Experience in the providing assistance in the care, treatment and habilitation to individuals who have intellectual disabilities and other developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Other trainings per department or per home location may be required, refer to policy 8.106 for specific requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Encourage and mentor individuals and Behavior Support Technicians by supporting them in maximizing their full potential.
  • Provide training and supports to all aspects of individuals life activities and to BSTs working within their assigned clients' home (ISL).
  • Assist individuals with daily life skills including cooking, cleaning, hygiene, purchasing of groceries, food preparation, medication administration, behavioral care, community participation, and management of personal funds.
  • Assist the Program Supervisor in implementing personal plans, implementing and communicating directives, maintaining necessary records and reports, and contributing to the development and maintenance of a therapeutic environment.
  • Serve as an ambassador of the mission and purpose of The Arc of the Ozarks.
  • Support The Arc knowing that any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which could be included in the position of this class.
  • Assist with the purchasing of groceries and supplies; assist in the preparation and training in food preparation in compliance with dietary needs; supervises meal activities and assists individuals served as necessary.
  • Provide support to persons served in maintaining a safe and clean environment in their home and training to individuals served in dressing, bathing, personal hygiene, house cleaning, laundry, and other activities of daily living.
  • Ensure the residential setting is safe and clean.
  • Administer medications to individuals served in accordance with agency policies and procedures, after certification by Missouri State and Arc officials.
  • Assist with Physicians' appointments as assigned; assuring that documentation is correct.
  • Administer oral, rectal, vaginal, optic, ophthalmic, nasal, and topical medications, after certification by The Arc of the Ozarks and Missouri State officials.
  • Take appropriate action in case of fire and/or disaster or other urgent / emergency.
  • Create solutions for crisis situations according to Arc policy and crisis prevention and intervention training.
  • Assist in maintaining an inventory of supplies in the home and ordering / notifying appropriate parties of needed items so client’s homes always have necessary items.
  • Implement outcomes and strategies of individual personal plans under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, or other staff members; provides supports as identified in the personal plans; attends review meetings when assigned.
  • Observe, report and record changes in the physical condition, behavioral response, and emotional status of each individual served and progress on outcomes listed in the personal plan.
  • Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of necessary records and reports.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new employees; demonstrating direct support activities to staff.
  • Encourage the development and maintenance of a safe environment for persons served in a residential setting including developing plans for evacuation assistance in case of emergency, using the on-call pager; and training in securing emergency services such as the police, the fire department, and an ambulance.
  • Complete medical/injury incident and behavioral reports when necessary.
  • Provide assistance and planning to individuals served in becoming as mobile in their community environment as possible and assists the individuals’ requiring supports in participating in varied meaningful vocational, domestic, and leisure activities in the community of their choosing.

  • Assist the Program Supervisor or other management staff in the management and supervision of a residential setting; makes frequent checks in the assigned area, schedules staff in accordance with the team budget; makes work assignments, inspects and evaluates the work of subordinates, reviews and instructs personnel in the care, treatment and habilitation of persons served.
  • Complete or supervise all monthly filing; monthly summary sheets, MAR’s, Nurse consultations, Monthly Budgets, Accident/Injury Reports, Behavior Incident Reports.
  • In the absence of the Program Supervisor or other management staff, supervise direct support staff and evaluate performance and quality standards in accordance with established agency policy.
  • Circulate and implement directives of Program Supervisor or other management staff and report rule infractions, complaints from individual’s served/parents/ guardians/employees, and related incidents to Program Supervisor or other management staff in a timely manner.
