About The Position

John Sevier Elementary School is seeking a qualified candidate for a part-time K-3 Behavior Intervention Teaching Assistant position. This role involves working directly with the MCS K-3 Behavioral Intervention Specialist to provide direct behavior intervention to students through a pull-out and push-in model. The goal is to ensure a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where students can thrive. The assistant will help develop behavioral intervention and assessment strategies to support teachers in implementing positive behavior support and restorative practices. Responsibilities include assisting in the development of MCS Behavioral Support Program components, maintaining student behavior records, and completing ongoing professional development. The position reports to the Building Principal and the MCS K-3 Behavioral Intervention Specialist.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (2 years college preferred)
  • Experience working directly with children
  • De-escalation and therapeutic restraint training or willingness to complete certification training
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, school counselor(s), school psychologist(s) and school administrators.
  • Aptitude and flexibility to work with multiple schedules and student needs.
  • Ability to lift and/or physically manage students of varying sizes and weight (e.g., lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, sitting for long periods of time, walking, seeing, standing for extended periods of time, etc.).
  • Honesty, flexibility, confidentiality, professionalism, commitment, and loyalty.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct behavior intervention to students through a pull-out and push-in model.
  • Ensure a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where students can thrive.
  • Develop behavioral intervention and assessment strategies to support teachers in implementing positive behavior support and restorative practices.
  • Assist in developing MCS Behavioral Support Program components, including guidance documents, artifacts, and resources.
  • Maintain student behavior records.
  • Complete ongoing professional development through direct coaching, conferences, workshops, and research.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by administration.
