About The Position

Hope Human Services is a premier provider of Supported Living and Diversion services for developmentally and intellectually disabled adults throughout Washington State. The Behavior Support Specialist participates as a member of the Diversion Management Team in maintaining quality and continuity of care for individuals supported within our Bed-Based Diversion Program. This position provides leadership, training, coaching, and support to Direct Support Professionals while assisting with the development and implementation of individualized behavioral support strategies and care plans. The Behavior Support Specialist works collaboratively with Program Managers, Clinical Supports, Direct Support Professionals, families, guardians, and community partners to ensure individuals receive high-quality, person-centered support. This position provides in-the-moment coaching, staff development, behavioral support implementation, data review, documentation oversight, and consultation to promote positive outcomes and quality services.

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years of age or older
  • Minimum Associate's degree required
  • Two or more years of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism, mental health conditions, or challenging behaviors
  • Must have a currently valid driver's license or valid driver's license as an active-duty armed forces personnel or dependent of an active-duty armed forces personnel and the ability to be insured to drive agency vehicles
  • Proof of vehicle insurance
  • Provides driving abstract on annual basis or as requested
  • Provides valid CPR and First Aid certification or obtains within required timeframe
  • Provides Supported Living Letter of Exemption or 75-Hour Training Certificate or obtains within required timeframe
  • Provides Peer Coaching Certificate or obtains within required timeframe
  • Able to pass a criminal background check with the State of Washington and maintain clearance during tenure of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Behavior Analysis, Education, or related field preferred
  • Experience as a Behavioral Specialist, Trainer, RBT, BCaBA, LABA, or similar behavioral support role preferred
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, coaching, and training to Direct Support Professionals and Lead Direct Support Professionals
  • Demonstrates direct care skills, professionalism, critical thinking, and objectivity
  • Develops, implements, and supports individualized behavior support strategies and person-centered care plans
  • Uses behavioral data, observations, and assessments to guide support planning and monitor progress
  • Reviews documentation for accuracy, compliance, and quality assurance purposes
  • Participates in staff development, training, and ongoing coaching to ensure quality service delivery
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and crisis response situations as needed
  • Ability to access agency homes and community locations to support individuals and staff
  • Experience with data collection, documentation review, and electronic record systems
