About The Position

Being a Behavior Support Specialist at Devereux League City has its advantages. We are looking for a behavioral specialist to join our team and provide therapeutic support to individuals with behavioral issues.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Valid driver license must be maintained.
  • Zero-tolerance policy for abuse and adherence to policies and procedures to systematically reduce the risk of abuse.
  • Fostering a culture of reporting abuse and cooperating with authorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor or higher degree preferred.
  • One (1) year previous experience in a Psychiatric facility preferred.
  • One (1) year experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Intellectual Disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Helping children overcome challenges in learning, problem solving, impulse control, judgement, communication, social interaction, and adaptive functioning (activities of daily living).
  • Working with individuals who may be non-speaking and have limited interactions and responses to others.
  • Assisting with toileting needs, including changing diapers and pull-ups.
  • Managing challenging behaviors such as hitting, biting, kicking, scratching, and pinching.
  • Supporting children in managing their emotions.
  • Addressing emotional and behavioral challenges, including physical and verbal aggression.
  • Creating individualized treatment and education plans that leverage strengths and address specific behaviors while teaching skills.
