About The Position

UCP Long Island is a not-for-profit agency dedicated to advancing the independence, productivity, and full citizenship of individuals with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. We are seeking an experienced Behavior Intervention Specialist to develop and maintain goal plans specifically addressing the behaviors of individuals served, under the supervision of a licensed Psychologist. This role involves evaluating and testing individuals, and training staff members.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • M.A. degree in Applied Psychology, from an accredited training program (including internship) e.g., school, clinical, counseling, and educational.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate each individual served based on the results of appropriate tests.
  • Administer appropriate tests annually to determine consumer needs.
  • Complete and review a full assessment as part of the annual plan of care.
  • Conduct triennial testing on all individuals served according to New York State guidelines for intelligence testing to establish IQ scores.
  • Participate in the development of written, detailed, specific, and individualized program plans designed to maximize each resident’s development and skill acquisition in areas such as self-direction, emotional stability, and effective use of time.
  • Ensure individualized plans of care are specific with measurable goals and objectives, detail therapeutic steps, assign staff responsibilities, and set time frames for follow-up assessments.
  • Evaluate each program in behavioral measurable terms at a minimum of monthly and quarterly.
  • Ensure goal plans meet state and federal guidelines/regulations.
  • Participate in weekly IDT meetings at each residence.
  • Participate in annual/interim meetings, special IDT meetings (as appropriate), and staff meetings.
  • Provide hands-on training to direct support staff.
  • Conduct on-site and agency in-service training to staff at the discretion of the residence manager.
  • Review all treatment plans.
  • Gain knowledge of and assist in the implementation of all applicable IRA/ICF regulations.
  • Maintain contact with all psychological therapeutic personnel involved with the individuals, such as day programs.
  • Maintain contact with and provide behavioral information/feedback to the psychiatric services provider when applicable.
