About The Position

At BHA Academy, Behavior Interventionists serve as highly skilled practitioners in behavior interventions, supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and significant behavioral challenges. Working under the direction of the Clinician, Behavior Interventionists implement individualized interventions, model de-escalation techniques, collect and analyze behavioral data, and provide direct support across academic and therapeutic settings. This role combines clinical expertise, compassion, and consistency to promote meaningful progress and safety for every student. Behavior Interventionists also play a key role in training and mentoring paraprofessionals on intervention strategies, skill acquisition programs, and crisis-prevention methods. They collaborate closely with behavioral clinicians to ensure treatment integrity and contribute to the overall therapeutic culture of the Academy. This is a safety-sensitive position. Employees must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, including maintaining continuous alertness, providing direct supervision, driving individuals served as required, and administering medications as trained.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Two to four years of experience in a behavioral or school-based setting, working with students exhibiting challenging behaviors.
Knowledge and application of function-based interventions, data collection, and behavioral assessment tools.
Certification or experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (RBT-level training required).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Expertise in behavior de-escalation, data collection, and function-based intervention.
Organizational and time management proficiency.
Emotional resilience and professionalism in high-pressure situations.
Ability to remain calm and professional during crisis events.
Commitment to trauma-informed, person-centered care.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in psychology, education, behavioral science, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

Maintain composure, integrity, and professionalism during all interactions with students, families, and colleagues.
Model appropriate professional conduct, language, and demeanor for paraprofessionals and peers.
Collaborate with Lead Clinicians, teachers, and interdisciplinary team members to evaluate student progress and adjust interventions.
Demonstrate accountability through accurate documentation, timely reporting, and consistent follow-through.
Participate in supervision, professional development, and fidelity checks to ensure adherence to clinical and ethical standards.

Maintain consistency in implementing interventions, recording data, and following team protocols.
Demonstrate reliability and punctuality in all duties and responsibilities.
Reinforce consistency among paraprofessionals and classroom staff to promote student stability and trust.
Follow established de-escalation and crisis procedures with precision and calmness.
Ensure reinforcement systems and environmental structures remain predictable and consistent for each student.
Support each student’s long-term goal of returning to less restrictive educational settings.
Implement interventions that promote social-emotional regulation, adaptive coping, and independence.
Partner with clinicians and teachers to prepare students for successful transition and generalization of learned skills.
Advocate for student safety, dignity, and access to quality education and therapy.
Identify barriers to student success and communicate them proactively to clinicians and leadership.
Empower paraprofessionals through modeling, coaching, and collaborative reflection.
Ensure all interventions reflect a commitment to ethical, person-centered practice.
Perform other duties and special projects to support various organizational initiatives as assigned.
Participate in team meetings, professional development, and required trainings (e.g., PCM, Tools of Choice, CPR/FA, Mandated Reporting).
Support personal care needs (toileting, feeding, hygiene, mobility) as outlined in student plans.
Complete documentation accurately and promptly, including data collection, incident reports, and daily notes.
Maintain classroom cleanliness, organization, and safety standards.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
