About The Position

Joplin Schools is seeking a Behavior Interventionist to assist in a special education classroom focused on Communication, Behavior, Social Skills (CBSS). This role involves working with students who exhibit significant behaviors or have autism. The district will provide extensive training. Responsibilities include one-on-one support, assisting with small group lessons, and collecting data on student programs. The Behavior Interventionist will collaborate closely with the classroom teacher, a behavior consultant, and a behavior technician on student goals, behavior intervention plans, and the implementation of daily schedules. The ideal candidate will be a team player with strong communication skills, capable of assisting with students' personal needs, working with nonverbal students, and learning Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques.

Requirements

  • Must have 60 college hours or Have passed the Para Assessment (MEGA).
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Ability to take care of personal needs of students.
  • Ability to work with nonverbal students.
  • Willingness to learn ABA applied behavior analysis techniques.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records and filing systems for accountability and audit purposes as required by law and Board policy.
  • Solve practical problems utilizing math functions as needed to complete job duties.
  • Read and interpret documents such as work orders, safety rules, and handbooks and apply to job duties.
  • Provide curriculum support for students.
  • Implement behavior modification techniques.
  • Create individualized learning materials.
  • Support students through assigned tasks.
  • Read aloud to individual or small groups of students.
  • Assist with lifting or transferring students.
  • Assist with personal hygiene, including diapering and toilet training.
  • Document and keep records.
  • Maintain logs and journals.
  • Assist students with motor or mobility limitations.
  • Maintain structure of the classroom.
  • Follow classroom activities and lessons as set by the teacher.
  • Prepare and clean up snacks.
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned.
