About The Position

Under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, the Behavior Intervention Specialist provides psychological assessments, develops and implements behavior plans, monitors individual progress, and collaborates with various teams and staff to ensure the well-being and development of individuals served. This role involves direct observation, data analysis, staff training, and liaison with other professionals to address behavioral needs and promote positive outcomes.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology or related field
  • At least one year of clinical experience working with individuals with intellectual and / or developmental disabilities
  • Ability to facilitate, promote, and support Informed Choice and self-advocacy
  • Ability to understand and use person centered planning principles
  • Ability to listen carefully to what people say
  • Ability to use professional judgment and assess the needs of individuals
  • Ability to recognize and address health and safety issues in an appropriate and timely manner

Nice To Haves

  • BCBA certification preferred
  • Management experience highly desirable
  • Residential experience highly valuable

Responsibilities

  • Provides initial and annual psychological assessments under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.
  • Assesses individuals’ behavior and implements programs to increase appropriate behaviors and reduce inappropriate behaviors.
  • Ensures behavior plans and strategies are available to staff and that data collection is measurable and objective.
  • Instructs and trains staff in the implementation of behavior plans/strategies, providing feedback for correct implementation.
  • Monitors each program through direct observation, data review, and staff interviews, revising as necessary.
  • Provides written monthly summaries of progress, annual and semi-annual reports.
  • Attends clinical, supervision, and treatment team meetings, reporting on individual responses to behavior plans and overall psychological functioning.
  • Provides analysis of behavior to ITT and families/advocates.
  • Acts as a liaison with psychiatrists, including completing behavior portions of Psychiatric Consult forms.
  • Attends psychiatric consultation follow-up appointments to advocate for individuals served.
  • Obtains informed consent for behavior plans/strategies involving SCIP-R Personal Intervention Techniques or other strategies with untoward risk, and for any medication prescribed for maladaptive behavior.
  • Completes Informed Consent Forms, reviews strategies/medication with parents/advocates, and presents to the Human Rights Committee.
  • Completes written Psychological reports as necessary.
  • Develops outcomes, objectives, and methods to address psychological problems or needs and maximize participant assets for inclusion in the IPP, with approval of the licensed psychologist and in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Provides or assures psychological services occur regularly to achieve IPP outcomes and objectives.
  • Develops new or strengthens existing adaptive behaviors, and modifies maladaptive behaviors through written behavior support plans.
  • Functions as an interdisciplinary team member and assures compliance with all applicable Agency and regulatory standards, policies, and practices.
  • Reviews outcome performance records on individuals with a behavior goal or plan, condition-based staff training, or any active intervention.
  • Participates in the design and implementation of the IPP.
  • Provides clinical supervision of Non-QIDP program staff members when necessary.
  • Meets regularly with supervising Licensed Psychologist for supervision and collaboration.
  • Performs other duties as requested or approved by the Area Director.
