About The Position

The Behavior Health Associate (BHA) is a position within the Behavioral Health Department at Petersburg Medical Center. The BHA will be responsible for supporting clinical staff in a variety of domains such as case management, administrative, quality assurance, direct patient interaction, and telehealth coordination. The BHA understands, promotes, and follows the Mission, Vision and Values of Petersburg Medical Center.

Requirements

  • Certification as a medical assistant, nursing assistant, or higher level of certification or degree within related healthcare field, or ability to obtain within 180 days, high school diploma, some college preferred.
  • Certification in Solution Focused Brief Therapy or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of a training provided by PMC.
  • Basic Life Support certification upon hire or within 60 days of start date.
  • At least one year of experience with direct patient care involving patients diagnosed with general or severe mental illness.
  • Advanced ability to collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to perform process of improvement initiatives to improve efficiency.
  • Multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced ability for critical thinking and decision making.
  • Problem solve and use conflict resolution skills to develop and maintain good working relations with staff and outside providers.
  • Anticipate needs of others and seek help when appropriate.
  • Perform job using evidence-based practices in a multi-disciplinary setting.

  • Familiarity with psychosocial interventions such as de-escalation and motivational interviewing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinated referrals to and from other agencies.
  • Manages schedules of clinical staff.
  • Conducts brief assessment and provides brief intervention to patients in clinic as requested by primary care provider.
  • Checks in and discharges patients in the electronic medical records.
  • Completes prior authorizations.
  • Rooms patients for behavioral health and telehealth appointments.
  • Facilities telehealth appointments for patients at PMC with specialty providers.
  • Patient outreach.
  • Corresponds with specialty providers and / or agencies for the purpose of scheduling and facilitating telehealth appointments.
  • Supports continuity of care by ensuring medical records from outside telehealth encounters are received by PMC.
  • Ensures patients schedule follow-up care with Primary Care Provider, Lab, Radiology, and / or other PMC departments as ordered by the specialty providers.
  • This position requires the appropriate candidate to be able to work with patients seeking support for behavioral health treatment.
  • The ability to work with people in crisis or various stages of change is required.
  • Familiarity with psychosocial interventions such as de-escalation and motivational interviewing preferred.
