About The Position

Centerstone is a leading nonprofit behavioral health system dedicated to improving lives through comprehensive care. We are seeking a Behavior Coach for the 2026-2027 school year, with onboarding beginning in late July. This role offers a school-based schedule with summers off and is ideal for those passionate about making a difference in students' lives. The Behavior Coach will collaborate with students, families, educators, and behavioral health professionals to foster student success, promote positive behaviors, and create a supportive learning environment. This position is crucial for supporting students within the Murrell Special Day Treatment School, who have severe emotional and behavioral challenges requiring specialized educational plans (IEPs). Behavior Coaches work directly in classrooms with Metro school staff to implement behavioral interventions, manage crises, and support student achievement. The role also includes conducting group sessions at least twice a week and requires a strong team-oriented approach. This is a 10-month position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Must be able to be trained in Physical Containments.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and meet eligibility requirements to be covered under the organization's vehicle insurance policy.
  • Effectively communicate via written, verbal, in person and virtual methods.
  • Utilizes effective behavioral management techniques, crisis intervention, de-escalation, active listening, motivational interviewing, etc.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill to provide quality services.
  • Displays knowledge and understanding of Ethical standards by evidence of practice with students, clients and community members.
  • A highly accountable, mature professional who listens actively and leads.
  • Self-motivated individual who can set and meet simultaneous short and long term performance goals.
  • Demonstrates good clinical judgment in decision making regarding consumers.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice or other behavioral health care field preferred.
  • Experience with working with children and teens on mental health issues is preferred.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides social-emotional learning in special day treatment classrooms K-7th grade.
  • Intervenes with students and clients at school during mental health crises, communicating with guardians and school personnel.
  • Assists daily with managing students with severe emotional and behavioral issues.
  • Conducts assessments in crisis situations, including threat assessments and evaluation for self-injurious behaviors, suicidal and homicidal ideations.
  • Develops and conducts a minimum of two behavioral health group sessions each week.
  • Conducts daily morning and closing meetings.
  • Follows PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention Support) plans.
  • Provides trauma-informed care.
  • Consults and collaborates with outside agencies, MNPS staff, and Centerstone behavioral staff.
  • Collects, analyzes, and utilizes data on students/clients to meet MNPS requirements (e.g., Adverse Childhood Experiences ACES, School Social Behavior Scales SSBS-2).
  • Attends and actively participates in clinical treatment team supervision meetings.
  • Attends staff meetings, Student Assistance Team (SAT) meetings, IEP meetings, data meetings, and other assigned meetings.
  • Maintains clear and timely professional documentation records, including weekly student/client summaries.
  • Provides consultation and training to school staff as needed.
  • Provides excellent customer service to individuals seeking services and to Metropolitan school staff.
  • Maintains frequent engagement with parents/legal guardians.
  • Assists in transitioning students to the least restrictive school settings.
  • Assists in classroom coverage as needed, including implementation of MNPS lesson plans.
  • Develops, leads, and participates in trainings during MNPS school breaks and staff development days.
