About The Position

The Behavior Analyst will collaborate with all members of a student’s IEP team to provide educational and behavioral programming based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Responsibilities will include assessing students’ repertoires, developing and/or modifying curriculum to meet individual needs, monitor skill acquisition, developing and overseeing the implementation of behavior support plans, developing data collection systems, and training and supervising staff in Applied Behavior Analysis. The Behavior Analyst collaborates with school staff in their efforts to achieve the best possible outcomes for the students served and to create a culture of excellence at VIA.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in special education, psychology, or a related field
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst
  • Valid Virginia license in Behavior Analysis
  • Extensive knowledge and skills in applied behavior analysis and evidence-based strategies for learners with autism and other developmental disabilities

Responsibilities

  • IEP Development: Coordinate with the Special Education Teacher to identify appropriate assessments, conduct and review annual assessment measures, assist in training staff to implement and interpret assessment results, prepare and present student assessment data and goals, collaborate to develop and implement observable and measurable IEP goals, assist with identifying acquisition, generalization, and maintenance targets, complete sections of progress reports and report cards, and solicit and document caregiver input.
  • Curriculum & Daily Instruction: Develop and implement behavior analytic programs for adaptive skills, collaborate to develop teaching programs for IEP goals, ensure programs are individualized, use behavior analytic teaching methods, ensure individualized schedules of reinforcement, differentially reinforce student skills, establish and maintain instruction in accordance with VIA protocols, train classroom staff on program implementation, attend meetings with related service providers, collaborate to ensure program instructions align with BSP, solicit and document caregiver input on teaching procedures, and collaborate to develop and monitor student transitions.
  • Interventions for Challenging Behavior: Develop and implement a new behavior support plan within 30 days of admission, use functional behavioral assessments to inform interventions, develop and monitor empirically-supported interventions through a behavior support plan, review and revise behavior support plans, train staff on behavior support plan implementation, complete functional analyses for challenging behavior, provide regular feedback to staff on plan implementation and data collection, and teach staff about the conditions for using antecedent strategies, direct interventions, and physical management.
  • Program Monitoring: Monitor all program data weekly and make data-based teaching decisions, attend and lead classroom meetings, review and/or collect IOA data monthly, and conduct electronic data collection audits.
  • Family Interactions: Provide family members with data summarizing student progress quarterly, provide parents with regular opportunities to meet with staff, observe students, and receive training, participate in parent meetings, and provide ongoing parent contact support.
  • Staff Supervision: Regularly measure and provide feedback on classroom staff performance, provide training on ABA techniques, participate in BCBA, SPED, & Behavior Technician interviews, collaborate to complete behavior technician biannual performance evaluations, provide RBT supervision, provide field experience hours and supervision to BCBA/BCaBA candidates, and deliver VIA’s new hire training.
  • Professional Development: Assist with research protocols, maintain BCBA and Virginia license, assist in providing and developing ongoing staff development opportunities, and present data at conferences.
  • Management Duties: Take a leadership role at all times, ensure classroom staff adhere to VIA policies and procedures, develop staffing and student classroom schedules, demonstrate problem-solving and mediate conflict, maintain a well-organized work environment, implement performance management systems, and champion special projects.
