About The Position

Boston Public Schools is offering a daily Before-School Program serving families at participating schools. The program will provide developmentally appropriate care in a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment. The Before-School facilitator will supervise students from 7:30 AM until the start of the school day at 8:30 AM in a welcoming and inclusive environment. The before-school program at the King Elementary School will run from 7:30 AM until the start of the school day at 8:30 AM and will be open to all students in PreK through 6th grade.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Nine (9) + credit hours of college coursework in early childhood education or related field, or forty-eight (48) credit hours of college coursework or an Associate’s Degree, or a passing score on one of the following formalized standardized assessments: ParaPro Assessment; or ACT WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with school-age children in an afterschool, summer, educational, recreation, or youth development setting.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in education, child development, youth development, recreation, human services, or a related field.
  • Experience planning and facilitating enrichment activities for children.
  • Experience supporting students with disabilities in inclusive educational or youth development settings.
  • Experience working with multilingual learners and families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Experience working in a Boston Public Schools setting, particularly at the school where the position is located.
  • Familiarity with the students, families, and school community served by the program.
  • Candidates who are fluent in one or more of BPS's official languages are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provide active supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of students during all program activities, from arrival through transitions to class.
  • Implements developmentally appropriate enrichment activities.
  • Promotes children's health, safety, and personal hygiene (including diapering when necessary).
  • Supports the successful participation of all children, including children with disabilities and diverse developmental and learning needs.
  • Adheres to Boston Public Schools policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
  • Maintains a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment conducive to children's development.
  • Collaborates with school staff and families to support children's needs.
  • Participates in required orientation, staff meetings, and training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Benefits
