About The Position

The Before and After School Director is responsible for planning and implementing the child care program, supervising staff, and developing good community relations. This role involves preparing and implementing quality programming to ensure a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for students.

Requirements

  • Must be age 21 or over.
  • Completed at least one of the following: a four-year college degree (recreation, outdoor education, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, or human services field), OR an associate degree or sixty (60) semester credit hours from an accredited college or university and three (3) months (455 hours) of experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children over the ages of four (4) years who are not related to the individual, OR twenty-one (21) months (3,185 hours) of experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children over the ages of four (4) years who are not related to the individual and completion of six (6) semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university OR completion of forty (40) clock hours of training in coursework applicable to school-age children within the first nine months in the director position.
  • A current early childhood professional credential level II (2) or higher in version 3.0 as determined by the Department.
  • Experience in a paid child care program, para-educator experience, or any licensed teaching experience.
  • Demonstrate an ability and interest in working with school-age children.
  • Thorough and current knowledge of all aspects of childcare.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making ability.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer skills.
  • Complete all required training as required by licensing.
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire.
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.

Responsibilities

  • Follow and enforce all Colorado Department of Early Childhood licensing requirements.
  • Create and implement quality lesson plans for every day the program is in operation.
  • Regularly open and close the program before and after school.
  • Directly and actively supervise and engage with students during program hours.
  • Plan and facilitate small and large group activities that are developmentally appropriate.
  • Provide a safe, nurturing environment conducive to the growth and development of each student with readily accessible, age-appropriate materials.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the program, including preparing materials and toys, student discipline, addressing parent complaints, daily attendance, proper food handling and sanitation practices, and tending to students' personal needs.
  • Purchase program supplies within the district’s spending guidelines.
  • Attend monthly director meetings, principal and nurse meetings as required.
  • Seek out, interview, and hire all staff to work in the program.
  • Supervise program staff, evaluating annually and after 60 days of employment.
  • Create and distribute weekly work schedules to staff in the program.
  • Create and implement activities and field trips for full-day programming.
  • Promote and market the program for before and after care and full days.
  • Conduct monthly program staff meetings and maintain up-to-date staff files to meet licensing requirements.
  • Exhibit excellent communication with parents, students, school staff, district staff, and co-workers.
  • Attend and participate in professional development trainings as required by licensing and district.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
