About The Position

The Before and After School Assistant provides active supervision of students in a school-based child care program under the guidance of a qualified leader, assistant director, or director. The role also supports positive community relations among community and school stakeholders. The position is classified as non-exempt and is part of the Educational Support Personnel compensation plan, Pay Range 3.

Requirements

Be at least 16 years of age.
Work directly under the supervision of the director, assistant director, or leader.
Complete at least 15 clock hours of training each year of employment.
Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Hold current First Aid and CPR certification, or be able to obtain certification within 30 days.
Demonstrate the ability to work with school-age children.
Complete a criminal background check and fingerprinting as a condition of hire.

Nice To Haves

Experience working in a paid licensed child-care program, as a teaching assistant or para-educator, or in licensed teaching.
Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Racial consciousness and cultural competence, including the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Complete tasks assigned by the director, assistant director, or leader.
Follow procedures in the ECS Procedures Manual.
Participate in and play with students during structured and unstructured activities.
Maintain safe conditions for students and staff.
Follow and enforce program discipline policies and procedures.
Assist with maintaining, properly storing, and repairing equipment, materials, and supplies.
Contribute ideas for enrichment activities, curriculum, and program quality.
Communicate effectively with parents, students, school staff, and coworkers.
Follow district policies and goals and use district facilities with care.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
