About The Position

The Beamline Welding Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, running, and maintaining automated welding robots. This includes loading and unloading beams, interpreting blueprints, monitoring weld quality using gauges, performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting errors, and ensuring safety protocols are followed to produce consistent, high-quality beam components within the welding robotic cell. The role requires basic MIG/TIG welding skills and a strong attention to detail. The company, stow, specializes in high-density, high-precision racking systems with automated pallet shuttles, aiming to maximize warehouse utilization and efficiency for its customers. With over 40 years of experience, stow has grown to include 10 manufacturing facilities and 19 commercial offices globally, employing around 2000 people. The U.S. operations, which began in Romeoville, IL in early 2021, have expanded to over 70 employees, with a new manufacturing plant opening soon in the greater Atlanta area.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience with stamping and Roll forming presses and manufacturing.
  • Ability to read blueprints/technical drawings.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of measuring tools.
  • Detail-oriented.

  • Teamwork skills.
  • Physical stamina (lifting, standing).
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols.
  • Mechanical aptitude and technical understanding of automated systems.
  • Basic manual welding skills (MIG/TIG).
  • Strong attention to detail and precision.
  • Problem-solving skills for troubleshooting.
  • Physical ability to lift and move parts.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, run, and maintain automated welding robots.
  • Load and unload beams.
  • Read blueprints.
  • Monitor weld quality with gauges.
  • Perform basic maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot errors.
  • Ensure safety to produce consistent, high-quality beam components on the welding robotic cell.
  • Operate machines.
  • Run Welding robots, including handling, positioning, and modifying welding positioning with supervisor permission.
  • Utilize spare parts for small interventions on robots, such as contact tips, gas nozzles, and gas distributors.
  • Perform quality checks using a tape measure, bench and measuring station, automatic weld control camera, and hook control camera.
  • Load and unload parts, position workpieces using jigs/fixtures, and initiate the robotic welding process.
  • Input and adjust parameters (power, speed, pattern) for the robot controller based on engineering specifications.
  • Visually inspect welds, use measuring tools (gauges, calipers), and remove spatter to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Perform routine upkeep like cleaning nozzles, changing wire/tips, lubricating, and reporting malfunctions.
  • Identify and resolve errors or system malfunctions during production runs.
  • Complete production logs, downtime reports, and quality records.
  • Follow all safety protocols, maintain a clean work area, and wear required PPE.
