Beamline Welding Machine Operator
About The Position
The Beamline Welding Machine Operator sets up, programs, runs, and maintains automated welding robots. This role focuses on loading/unloading beams, reading blueprints, monitoring weld quality with gauges, performing basic maintenance, troubleshooting errors, and ensuring safety to produce consistent, high-quality beam components on the welding robotic cell. The position requires strong attention to detail and knowledge of machine operation, specifically welding robots, including handling, positioning, and modifying welding positions with supervisor permission. The operator will utilize spare parts for small interventions on robots, such as contact tips, gas nozzles, and gas distributors. They will perform quality checks using various tools and cameras, set up and operate the robotic welding process, input and adjust programming parameters, and conduct visual inspections and measurements to ensure parts meet specifications. Routine maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation, and adherence to safety protocols are also key aspects of this role.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience with stamping and Roll forming presses and manufacturing.
- Ability to read blueprints/technical drawings.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of measuring tools (gauges, calipers).
- Detail-oriented.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Teamwork skills.
- Physical stamina (lifting, standing).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols.
- Technical understanding of automated systems.
- Strong attention to detail and precision.
- Problem-solving skills for troubleshooting.
- Physical ability to lift and move parts.
Nice To Haves
- Vocational training a plus.
- Basic manual welding skills (MIG/TIG) preferred.
- Welding certificate is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Sets up, programs, runs, and maintains automated welding robots.
- Loads/unloads beams and positions workpieces using jigs/fixtures.
- Initiates the robotic welding process.
- Reads blueprints and technical drawings, including welding symbols.
- Monitors weld quality using gauges, tape measures, bench and measuring stations, and automatic weld control cameras.
- Performs basic maintenance on robots, such as cleaning nozzles, changing wire/tips, and lubricating.
- Troubleshoots errors and system malfunctions during production runs.
- Ensures safety protocols are followed and wears required PPE.
- Completes production logs, downtime reports, and quality records.
- Maintains a clean work area and practices good housekeeping.
