About The Position

Steel America, a business unit of Colonna’s Shipyard, is seeking an experienced Beam Cut Operator to support operations on 2nd Shift (3pm-11:30pm) in the Fabrication Shop at our site in Norfolk, VA. The Beam Cut Operator will use a CNC automatic beam cutting machine to make precision cuts on various metal structural profiles.

Requirements

• Must have a HS diploma (or equivalent) and at least two (2) years of experience operating a CNC automatic beam cutting machine in a steel service center or fabrication environment.
• Must be able to read, interpret, and follow product plans, blueprints, and/or drawings.
• Must demonstrate basic levels of mathematical, reading, writing and communication skills necessary to successfully accomplish the job requirements as outlined above.
• Must be able to work all shifts, overtime, and weekends.
• Must be a steady, reliable worker.

Nice To Haves

• Experience operating plasma burn tables and/or press brakes preferred.
• CNC Programming experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates a CNC automatic beam cutting machine to make precision cuts on various metal structural profiles.
• Prepares, sets up, and adjusts Beam Cut machine as required by product plans and production schedules.
• Ensures that there are sufficient raw materials available.
• Measures and aligns materials to be used.
• Inspects products, evaluating finished pieces for compliance with quality standards and specifications.
• Performs routine maintenance on the Beam Cut machine.
• Maintains a clean work area.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
