About The Position

As needed and under direct supervision of the Cocoa Beach Police Department shift supervisor, patrols the beach and the beach access points to ensure the safety of the public as well as compliance to city ordinances and beach rules. This is a part-time position with a pay rate of $17.56 per hour, requiring weekend availability and involving exposure to outdoor elements.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school and any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s license, Class E, with a clean driving record.
  • Weekend work is required.
  • Experience in dealing with the public.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in a calm, non-confrontational yet authoritative manner.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patrols on-foot or in a four-wheeler acting as a liaison between the public and the Cocoa Beach Police Department.
  • Assists the public by giving directions or general information.
  • Patrols the beach for the purpose of ensuring the safety of the public by identifying any hazards, conditions or beachgoer behaviors that may pose a safety risk to the public.
  • Interacts with the public to respond to inquiries or to inform the public of city ordinances and/or beach rules and seeks compliance when violations are found.
  • Monitors beach access and beach parking areas.
  • Seeks assistance from CBPD law enforcement officers when after issuance of a lawful order fails to gain compliance.
  • Assists in the administration of city-approved special events.
  • May be asked to work holidays, including religious holidays.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
