About The Position

Altora, a Treetown Tech company, builds power and sensing hardware for unmanned systems, including battery packs, power management, and electronics for aircraft. Technicians at Altora transform designs into physical, flight-worthy products, handling everything from one-off engineering prototypes to repeatable production builds. The company is seeking a Battery Technician with 3-7 years of hands-on experience who can work independently from drawings. This role involves both building packs using established processes and collaborating with engineers on first-article builds for new designs. The ideal candidate is proficient in both aspects of the job.

Requirements

Three or more years of experience building electromechanical or electrical assemblies.
Comfortable reading schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and BOMs.
Solid hand soldering skills.
Experience with spot welding, crimping, potting, or heat-shrink and insulation work on battery assemblies.
Familiarity with DMMs, power supplies, electronic loads, and battery cyclers.
Ability to maintain careful records; if it's not written down, it didn't happen.
Ability to work independently on a build and recognize when to seek assistance.

Nice To Haves

Battery pack experience is strongly preferred, but a strong harness, wire, or precision assembly background with a real interest in batteries will be considered.
IPC J-STD-001 certification (company will pay for certification if not currently held).
Lithium ion or LiPo pack design exposure.
BMS bring-up and configuration.
UN 38.3 or DOT shipping requirements knowledge.
ESD control practices.
Small UAS or defense hardware experience.
Basic 3D printing or fixture fabrication skills.
Familiarity with ITAR-controlled work.

Responsibilities

Pack build and assembly: Sort and match cells, spot weld and solder interconnects, build and dress harnesses, install BMS boards and sensing leads, pot and insulate, and close out mechanical assembly according to drawings, BOMs, and released revisions.
Prototype and first-article work: Collaborate with the engineering team on new designs, build initial units, and provide feedback on buildability and assembly sequence. Input on fixtures and tooling is valued.
Test and verification: Conduct capacity, impedance, and cycle checks. Set up and operate cyclers and data acquisition systems, recording results for engineering use.
Documentation: Create work instructions for others to follow, redline drawings that don't match reality, and maintain accurate serialization and traceability records.
Safety and housekeeping: Own and enforce safe handling, storage, and disposal practices for lithium cells at the workbench.
Support other shop functions: Assist with cable and harness work, box builds, and general electromechanical assembly when battery-related tasks are light.
